      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Does the job well.

      Every year, we throw away or recycle tons of glass in the form of bottles and jars. Not in our house; we make jams and wines!

      With any food-making process, cleanliness is paramount. You also need to remove the taint of any previous foodstuffs that have been in the bottles and jars you want to reuse.

      Asda "little angels" sterilising tablets have proved to be an effective agent for this. Supplied in a pack of 56, the tablets can be found in the baby section. Average price seems to be about 76p, but it seems Asda always put the price of things up just before they have a "special offer" and knock 3p off.

      Chlorine based, the tablets dissolve within minutes. One tablet will:
      * make up to 4 pints of baby bottle sterilising solution that is reusable over a 24 hour period,
      * sterilise 6 75cl bottles for wine,
      * clean 8 jam jars or 4 curry jars (it even gets rid of the curry smell),
      * purify 25 litres of water,
      * when dissolved in a sink of water, create a solution to disinfect the kitchen surfaces.

      Once we've used the solution, we dilute it in a large bucket and use it to water the garden!

      The cardboard box the tablets come in can be recycled and the tablets are stored in 8 tablet blister packs marked with their "use by" date, so storage out of the way of children is easy. Their shelf life is about 4 years, so you are likely to run out of tablets before you run out of time.

      Asda "little angels" sterilising tablets are a multipurpose product and a cheap, simple solution to disinfection.
