Advantages: quick and convenient

Disadvantages: comes out very hot at highest level

It is recommended that you don’t heat baby milk in a microwave as this could lead to uneven heat patches would is obviously dangerous to a baby. However, microwaves are supremely handy, quick and convenient. We needed something to warm bottles up that would mimic this speed and convenience.

The avent bottle and baby food warmer is as quick and convenient as a microwave. It’s a fairly small size, which suits us as our entire house has been invaded by baby stuff! Its not a travel bottle warmer, but is small enough to be able to take when visiting other people’s houses.

You can heat baby formula, expressed breast milk or baby food in it. It also comes with a baby food storage container and a spoon. It’s fairly easy to use for 4oz bottles fill the warmer with water to just above the level of milk in the bottle. For larger bottles fill the warmer to about 1 inch and a half over the edge of the warmer. There are three temperature gauges, the gauge you use and the time you put it on for, depends on size and make of bottle and whether you are heating baby food.
The times range from four to seven minutes. You then need to test the temperature on your wrist to make sure that it is not too hot.

I found I had to experiment a bit, because although the instruction booklet said to put the bottle on three, it came out scalding hot and took forever to cool a bit. I now use 1 which is a lot better. It’s important to take the bottle out after the right amount of time, because if you don’t the bottle just keeps on heating and will become too hot. Also add the water before switching the warmer on.

It costs £19.99 and can be found in boots, mother care and I think I saw it in Sainsburys the other day.
