Advantages: Simple to use, easy to clean, cheap

Disadvantages: No off switch!

I had an Avent bottle warmer when my little girl was born and I found it a god send.

She went on to bottles fairly quickly and would have up to 8 a day so we needed an efficient bottle warmer which would warm the bottles efficiently. I know a lot of people use microwaves but I had heard various negatives reports about them so decided to stick to a bottle warmer.

I chose the Avent as it was one of the better makes on the market at the time and it also was the nicest looking.

The warmer was white with a silver dial and a blue plastic insert. It came with one small 5oz bottle and a feeding spoon.

It is so simple to use. You plug it in, put some water in to the desired level which is marked on the inside of the unit. You then place the blue plastic holder in and then put your bottle in. You set the timer to the desired level and off you go. A light shows on the front of the unit and goes out once the water has reached a desirable level. This does not indicate that your bottle has reach the desired level.

It would take between 2 - 4 minutes dependent on the size of the feed for the milk to be warmed to a suitable level.

The unit is extremley easy to clean as all plastic and you also received two packets of cirtric solution to descale. These can also be bought seperately if required.

The one negative to this unit is that there isn't an automatic off switch. The unit can only be turned off by unplugging or switching it off at the mains. Therefore, if you forget to do this you can boil the unit dry.

I found the unit was suitable for all types of bottles including wider neck bottles but I don't think it would be suitable for larger beakers if your child still needed their drinks warming.

They retail around £18 to £20 dependent on where you buy them and can be picked up much cheaper on Ebay.

In all it is a very easy to use and simple to look after appliance which for me was essential when my little girl was a baby.

Summary: An essential item for a new mum in my opinion.

I thought the current advice is to make feeds up as and when required?... even so sounds like a good product.
