Advantages: ...... can't think of any

Disadvantages: uncomfortable, unsightly and don't last long enough

I'll start by saying that I tend to leak fairly extensively, and tried a few brands of nursing pads.

I had high hopes for the Avent ones because in general I've heard good things about their products. Also, I'd just finished with a box of pads without the little adhesive strip and was excited to stop losing the pads whenever I did anything more athletic than sitting still.

The pads look great: they're thickly padded, shaped slightly to fit over the breast, and the adhesive strip goes under the nipple to ensure a secure fit. Fantastic, right?

Wrong. The impressive-looking padding is not in the slightest bit discreet. I have a six week old daughter; looking like Madonna in her cone-breasted corset is not high on my fashion to-do list (not being covered in puke's far more important right now). The slight dip in the middle of the pad does make it easier to wear, but only if you're wearing an enormous bra - otherwise it pokes out over the top of your bra cup.

The adhesive strip is not big or strong enough - lying down or carrying the baby in the Baby Bjorn is enough to dislodge it and then you end up with the very wet patches that you're wearing the pads to avoid.

Using the pads during the day at home wasn't bad at first - nobody cares if my boobs look pointy and the pads stayed put. However, after a couple of hours they were soaked and had dried hard, so were extremely irritating on my already sore nipples.

I'm going out on a limb and telling you, if you're reading this review, to be good to your boobs and buy or make soft fabric reusable nursing pads. Your nipples will thank you.

Summary: Ouch!
