Avent Electric Breast Pump
Advantages: Works a treat
Disadvantages: Pricey, noisy
I thought this breast pump was really, really good. I shopped around for what I thought would be the best for me, and this came out on top. I paid £91.95 for it from Boots.
I decided to buy a breast pump as my baby son constantly wanted to feed, and when you have a house to run, a five year old to look after, and very little sleep, the last thing you want to be doing is sitting down with a baby attached to all day. So, I bought this pump so my husband could share the feeding.
This breast pump is very easy to use and has a memory that learns how you pump and mimics your natural pumping rhythm. You pump using the handle at the rhythm you prefer, then press the button and this kick starts the 'electric' side of the breast pump and does the hard work for you!
The pump comes with a Let-Down Massage Cushion which is designed to stimulate milk flow.
The pump is advertised to be 'Quiet and effortless.' I wouldn't say it's quiet; I had to turn the TV up whilst watching it, as the pump is quite noisy. It certainly is effortless to use though.
You can put it batteries or run the pump through the mains. The lead is pretty long, so you can sit in a chair which is a short distance away from the plug if need be.
The breast pump comes complete with;
1 x 125ml/4oz Philips AVENT Bottle
1 x Teat Philips AVENT Travel Pack
1 x sealing disc
1x Let Down Massage Cushion
There is also all the extra parts to assemble this pump to be manual. I am not sure why you would want to after buying an electric, however!
I found disassembling the breast pump easy. Everything un- clicks and most of the parts need to be sterilised; as a general rule, these are the parts which touch your breast and/or have milk flowing through.
I definitely found that this pump helped to keep my milk supply up when not actually breastfeeding. It managed to squeeze quite a bit out at times. It doesn't hurt, only a little uncomfortable at times.
Summary: A good breast pump, comfy to use but a little pricey
