Advantages: You are able to use all avent bottle/cup tops on it

Disadvantages: Too many to list in this box!

Since i found out i was pregnant and since ive had my daughter i have been one of those people that has only bought avent feeding equiptment. As they are a well known brand & highly recomended by several magazines etc.

I started weaning my daughter when she was 4 1/2 mnths old. And since i had started weaning her i had tried to give her water & juice from a bottle but i was never successful! So when she was 6mnths old i decided to get her a cup to see if she would drink out of that.

I was having a look at all the cups available at my local supermarket and i came across the avent magic cup 6mnths+ with handles. On the packaging it said that it did not leak which for me sold it! As i knew that when she was learing how to drink out of a cup on her own it would end up getting chucked from her high chair onto the floor and id rather not have to clear up puddles of juice from the floor! Also another thing that sold it for me was that i could use the handles and the top of the cup on my avent bottles i already had. Which was great as i could use one of the bottles i alredy had with the cup spout if the actual magic cup bottle was dirty! It was a bit more expensive than the others at £4.49! But i was willing to pay that as on the packaging there were so many useful features! The only thing that worried me was that the spout was hard plastic incase she hurt her mouth on it. But i went ahead and bought it anyway!

When i tried her with it it was great! She was actually drinking out of it! And the hard spout that i had been worrying about wasnt a problem (if only i had a crystal ball to see into the future and i would have followed my gut instincts!) I had to help her to start off with and she couldnt quite get to grips with the handles so i took them off and soon she was managing to drink from the cup on her own! Which ment wile she was having a drink after having her meal that i could tidy up the mess from her meal!

Everthing was going great! She was taking in more fluids which was great as before she started to drink out of her cup she was constipated due to her low intake of fluids other than milk! Until one day when she dropped it and it leaked onto the floor! Now this could be due to the amount of times she dropped it onto the floor from the hight of her high chair. But you would imagine that this sort of product would be designed to withstand being dropped loadz! Its the sort of thing you would expect them to check when they are testing the product!

After that incident it was one after the other! We went out for the day and i had taken her avent magic cup with us as it was a hot day and i knew that she would be thirsty! But a bit later on in the day i went into the changing bag to get a nappy and the nappy was wet! I felt the bottom of my changing bag and it was soaked right through! This special "no-leaks" cup had leaked and soaked the full contents of my changing bag! I was furious! Our day was ruined and we had to go home as all the nappys, bibs etc were unusable!

I then bought a different cup but she would not drink out of it or any of the ones i bought after that! So i decided to just buy another avent magic cup hoping that the same thing wouldnt happen again! But it did! I gave up hope and just let her keep using it in the house but never took it out in my changing bag again! (i wasnt going to have another day out ruined by a cup!)

My daughter is now 10 months old. Last monday morning when she had finished her milk & jar of food i gave her a buiscuit to eat. After she had finished i gave her her avent magic cup to have a drink of water wile i took her empty bottle, dirty bib etc through to the kitchen. When i was in the kitchen i heard her crying and when i went through to see what was wrong with her i noticed that she had blood on her sleepsuit and when i looked in her mouth her gum surrounding one of her top front teeth was black and swollen! She had hit herself in the mouth with the hard plastic spout! I knew from the start that spout was bad!

I phoned the dentist and he told me to phone back and make an appointment when the swelling had gone down as it would be a waste of time going in before that as the tooth was not visible!

So 2 days later (the longest 2 days of my life!) the swelling had gone down and her tooth was chipped! I was outraged! I knew from the start that spout was too hard! When i took her to the dentist he confirmed that the tooth was chipped! And that when the tooth fully comes through it would need to be taken out or before that if the tooth starts to go brown/black! I couldnt beleive it! She had only just got it through and now she was going to have to get it taken out! My poor little girl is gonna have to go under general anesthetic at day surgery at the hospital! No little baby should have to go through that!

I have since emaild avent to complain so when i hear back i will let you all know the outcome!

In conclusion i would not recomend this product to anyone as your child could be at risk of damaging their teeth!

I hope you found this reveiw useful. Please feel free to leave any comments.

Thanx for reading. xx

Summary: I would not advise using this cup for your child!

I used the anywayup cups when my little ones were about a year old, the hard spouts weren't really a problem as I waited until they were a bit older before giving them, Hope you hear something back from avent x
