Advantages: Easy to clean the unit
Disadvantages: A little bit fiddly making room
Hi. I have had two children. When i had my first child i opted for a steam sterilier by Avent. I thought this would be a good idea as all my friends had one and it was the newest design on the market at the time.
I found this to be extremely annoying, as you have to de-scale it at least one a month to stop residue from the limescale in the water from sticking to the inside of your bottles. This also being more money to waste.
My second child however, i opted for the mircrowave steriliser. I was so relived to finally find a product i can clean itself in the washing up bowl removing all water limescale from the inside. My baby's bottles are pristine now, and no need to pay for de-scaler on your weekly shopping budget!,
The other bonus is that it is two minutes shorter in it's cycle compared to the steam sterilser. I also found with the steam steriliser that after a few months the cycle was taking longer to run, eventually i had to throw it out as it was taking twenty minutes. With the microwave sterislier it is superb, just fill and put in the mircowave. Excellent buy! and half the price of others on the market.
Summary: being able to clean the inside

- 05/04/06 Descaling can be done with vinegar simply, no need to buy expensive tablets or so, and of course it all depends on how hard water you have, I don't think I did mine more than once every couple of months (it was a Lindam one). But the microwave ones are cheaper, so provided one has a microwave (I never did when Katie was a baby) it's a more economic option. |
