Advantages: quick and easy to use, no assembly required!
Disadvantages: big unit to just sterilise one bottle at a time
The plethora of things you need for a new baby is immense and some things are needed over others. If you're bottle feeding your little one a steriliser is an important bit of kit (in my opinion).
We tried 2 different sterilisers with our son, both Tommee Tippee (the electric one which broke after a couple of weeks, but thats for a different review!) and the mircrowave one, so when I found out I was preganant with baby 2 we decided to go down the microwave steriliser route again (we had to buy a new one as had given the Tommee Tippee one away).
I found the Avent Microwave Steriliser in Asda at a reduced price and as I have heard good things about Avent decided it would be a good buy, especially as it came with 2 bottles (1x9oz 1x4oz) 2 teats (1x0m+ and 1x 1m+) 1x measuring jug, 1x tongs and 1x soother (0-3m).
The stereliser is extremely easy to use, add 200ml water to the base unit, load in your bottles to sterilise and whack it in the microwave... The length of time you need to microwave for depends on your microwave wattage - for an 850w - 1000w microwave it takes 4 minutes.
The unit will hold up to 6 9oz bottles or 2 bottles and 2 breast pumps. However with the new guidelines of only making up one feed at a time this is a bit pointless! The unit will keep bottles sterile for 24 hours providing the lid is not removed - again a bit pointless if you have to make up one feed at a time. I only ever sterilise one bottle at a time in it so it's quite big for just one bottle but avent don't do a single bottle steriliser.
Despite this I do recommend the Avent Microwave Steriliser. It's quick and easy to use, can be washed in the dishwasher and is made by a trusted brand.
Summary: Quality item.

- 05/11/09 I must admit I was releived not to have to faff about with one of these once we got the dishwasher, as the heat in there sterilises. |
