When I was expecting my first baby I was worried about how I should sterilise the feeding bottles. There are so many products on offer. I decided to try the Avent microwave steriliser. I bought a starter pack which contained the steriliser, four of the larger sized bottles (well worth getting rather than the small ones to save you having to re-buy when your baby?s appetite increases) including teats and a bottle brush. The instructions were very easy to follow. The steriliser is a very tidy, round plastic container. All you need to do is wash up your bottles, put 200ml of water in the bottom of the container (you can use one of the bottles for this as liquid measures are marked on the side), put up to four bottles in the designated sections in the base (both the small and large bottles fit as all Avent bottles have the same diameter neck) together with your teats etc and then put the lid on the container and microwave it on full power for 5 minutes. The bottles are then sterilised and ready. Do not try to get the container out of the microwave too soon after the 5 minutes are over because it is extremely hot. The instructions recommend that you leave the container for a few minutes but you need to very careful and use something to protect your hands. I found that it was best to leave it in the microwave for at least 10 minutes before touching it. I also use the container to store bottles when they are not in use. This way you can wash your bottles up as you go, put them in your steriliser until it is full and ready to be used. In the meantime the container can be kept in the microwave with the door shut and all your bottles and the steriliser are out of sight and neatly stored away leaving you with a tidy kitchen.
