Avent Sealing Discs
Advantages: Convert bottle into storage pot, tight leak free fit, easy to clean, BPA free, price
- Why I Bought -
I had always planned to breast feed my son but as I wanted the option to express milk I did also stock up on bottles, milk storage pots, steriliser and bottle brushes. In fact I was so well prepared that from looking at the huge selection of feeding equipment we had you could easily have thought we were intending to bottle feed formula. Most of our feeding equipment was from the Philips Avent brand but the milk storage pots they make seemed really flimsy to me so I decided to look around for an alternative. Then I found a set of four Avent pots in TKMaxx. These were different to the ones I had seen before; they were in fact exactly the same container as the bottles from the range except instead of a teat they had a sealing disc. This seemed like a much better option so I purchased the set and then bought an extra pack of six sealing discs in Boots so that all our bottles could be transformed into storage pots.
- The Sealing Discs -
The discs are very simple in design. They are made from tough white rubber (BPA free) and are obviously round in shape. They have a protruding white circle on top of the disc which has the Avent brand on it. This circle allows the disc to fit snugly into the plastic ring bottle top. When this is screwed onto the bottle you then have a secure container to hold your milk. It is easy to pop the disc out again and exchange it for a teat ready to feed baby.
- In Use -
I used these discs on our Avent bottles quite often in the six months that I was expressing milk for my baby. They create a very good seal and I never had any leaking. They didn't come to any harm in the fridge or freezer. I found it was useful that I could write on the disc as it meant I could label the milk with the date it was expressed. This ensured I never game my son milk that was past its best. As I had ten bottles and ten discs I was able to store quite large quantities of milk ready for when I was having a night out away from my baby. The discs are very easy to put into the bottle top and to remove again. It really couldn't be simpler.
- Cleaning -
These discs are dishwasher and microwave steriliser safe. I usually cleaned them by hand with a bottle brush and sterilised them prior to use. Easy peasy.
- Price and Availability -
The RRP for these sealing discs is £4.50 for a set of six. I think this is a reasonable price as they are good quality and can transform the bottles you already have into storage pots. I bought mine in Boots when there was a 3 for 2 baby event. They are also available from Mothercare and Amazon.
- Would I Recommend? -
I would definitely recommend these to anyone who already has Avent bottles and is looking for a solution for storing milk. They provide a tight leak free fit, are easy to put in and remove, are easy to clean, are BPA free and they are a reasonable price.
