Advantages: Good sturdy bottles, easy to clean, wide neck, available in most shops

Disadvantages: None

I chose to use philips avent bottles because I liked the shape and they were made by a trusted manufacturer (around £20 for a newborn starter pack that had 2 small bottles and 2 larger bottles with teats, lids and bottle brush). At 3 weeks I had to mixed feed my baby (so breast feeding and bottle feeding). Everyone will tell you that you can't do both but my son had no problems with bottle feeding and it didn't interfear with his ability to breast feed either. The teat is shaped so that your baby takes a big mouthful like he would if breastfeeding and I think this helped him to manage both.

The wide neck on the bottle is excellent for cleaning and putting in the formula powder without ending up with formula stuck to the inside of the neck.

The teats are easy to put into the ring you screw onto the top of the bottle and the lids form a very tight seal so you have no worries about taking them out and about after they have been sterilised.

The only drawback I think is that the ml and fluid ounces don't seem to tally on the side of the bottle. If I use the fluid ounces to make up my son's feed my husband thinks it is short because he looks at the number of mils. I don't know if that is just because it's printed on a round surface rather than a flat one.

I have washed these bottles by hand and in the dishwasher. If you wash them in a dishwasher don't make the same mistake I did and put them too close together because this marks the plastic. Also two of my teats are now a nice attractive orange colour! But the printing on the bottles is fine and hasn't worn off.

If you are a Boots advantage card holder join the parent club and you get double advantage points on any phillips purchase. That's handy when buying the next size up teats (usually around £4 for 2). Or a tip a friend of mine told me just use a pin to make the hole bigger on the ones you have and save yourself £4 a time! Worth looking into the newborn starter pack too because this is often a cheaper way as there are more bottles in there, since it's around £11 for 2.

Summary: A good baby bottle, good teat design could mix feed my son
