Avent Via Refill Cups
Advantages: Aren't just for breast milk.
Disadvantages: Lid is not leak proof.
Philips is a well known, highly respected worldwide brand. Their products range from electrical equipment such as TV's to nipple cream! Their mother and baby products include breast pumps, bottles and milk storage solutions. The Philips VIA cups are a wonderful interchangeable product that will last us many years from there baby range.
The cups themselves are made from clear BPA free plastic. They hold 6 oz or 180 ml in liquids. The lid is a light blue colour and twists on the cup. They can then stack very well one on top of the other or when not in use the empty cups stack well in the cupboard but the lid pile does have a habit of toppling over.
I have 30 of these cups, I know that sounds a lot but they are so versatile at any one time I only have a few unused in my cupboard. Although they are strong, durable and sturdy there is one downside and that is the lid. The lid is meant to be leak proof but you have to be very precise at twisting on and for the first few months of use I spilt liquid from these regularly and was very upset ( I do cry over spilt milk!).
I first used these when 2 free came with a Philips manual breast pump I brought. The breast pump came with an attachment to screw the cup onto the pump to express breast milk straight into the cup. I will do another review on the pump as I have many thing to say about it but for the purpose of purely these cups suffice to say the attachment was as bad at twisting on as the lid, so I found it difficult but was pleased all the products eased the process from expressing breast milk, to putting a teat on the pump attachment to feed my baby milk from the cup without having to transfer to a bottle. As a working mum who wanted to carry on breast feeding this equipment was invaluable. I could express into these cups and leave in the fridge or freeze for when my husband was ready to feed our baby.
The other main use I have found is freezing home made baby food. One day I ran out of ice cube trays and started using these cups. Since then as my daughter is now a year and eating a lot more than when first weaned, each cup can hold a portion of food for her. I can then freeze to take out with us at a later date very easily.
You are meant to be able to write on the cups e.g. date milk expressed, but I prefer to sellotape a label on, to keep the cup cleaner and the paper label is easier to read as I tape to the lid therefore open the freezer draw and look down in the draw to see all the labels/contents.
I brought mine from boots in packs of 10 for £9.99. I did get the equivalent of one pack free on one transaction thanks to Boots parent club and the vouchers they send through the post, meant with all the bonus advantage card points/vouchers for everything I was buying that day equated to £10 off my shop!
In summary yes I would recommend these great cups to any parent as you can use them beyond breast feeding. The only bad point concerning the lid is vastly out weighed to by how useful I find these.
Summary: A must have for working breast feeding mums
