A good bib but not perfect
Member Name: jillycat
Advantages: deflects water well lasts well
Disadvantages: Velcro not tough enough some issues with keeping it clean
One essential I have found when weaning both of my sons has been a bib to cover up their clothes and try to reduce the mess. I have yet to find the perfect bib for my sons and the Bibetta was another bib we tried with our second son hoping for good results.
The bib comes in two sizes small and large however where I bought this at Tesco's there was just the one size to choose from so I ended up with the small bib which is recommended from 4 months to 2 and a half years due to a neck size of between 210mm and 260mm. I have to say this does seem to be accurate as it fits nicely around my 14 months neck and has done since around the 6 month mark when we started using it. As the Velcro that holds it in place is adjustable it is never too tight or too loose. However the Velcro I have found is not always able to cope with being tugged by my son which then causes the bib and its contents to go flying across the room or down him.
The bib comes in various colours such as blue, purple or pink. The design that we have is blue with blue bubbles across it. Whilst this does look cute I would equally have been happy with a plain coloured one if the choice had been available in store.
One of the things that makes this bib stand out from other bibs on the market is that it is made from neoprene and it is because of this that we choose this bib. Having had material bibs in the past that have got soaked when my son was drinking from beakers and cups and hence the clothes underneath got wet the appeal of this was that it would deflect the water. I have to say that it definitely lives up to the promise on this point as it fits snuggly around the neck the water that dribbles down from my sons attempts to drink have always been deflected by the bib and ended up in the pouch at the bottom and the clothes have remained dry where the bib has been in place. I personally wish the bib was a bit wider as it misses the sides slightly and because of this any water that goes down the side means that my sons top will then get wet.
The pouch element is good and seems to cope well with the various spills and bits of food dropped by my son. However what I do find is that the stitching detail in the pouch can be a magnet for bits of food to be trapped in especially when my son has something like spaghetti Bolognese the sauce element can get a bit lodged in the stitching.
Cleaning the bib is supposed to be straight forward with giving it a wipe but this is the one thing that I feel lets it down a bit as the neoprene when been wiped down with a cloth just doesn't seem to come clean enough for me and stains easily. This is something that is easily remedied by a wash in the washing machine. It needs to be washed at 30 degrees and does wash well by hand. It dries very quickly but not quick enough I have found to be washed after lunch time and be ready for dinner time on an evening meaning that you do need to have two on the go if you want to give it a proper wash between meals. I have also found that using it over time the trim has started to bobble as well which is a bit disappointing really as the rest of the bib still looks a vibrant and colourful as when it was bought.
As we have done baby led weaning with our son this bib doesn't cover his arms meaning that often he does need a change of top but I have since discovered they do an arm covered bib which I think I am going to try, as this bib I think is not large enough to cover the body of babies and toddlers self-feeding to reduce the mess they generate.
This is a great bib for babies been feed and drinking by themselves as the neoprene deflects water well. It is easily adjustable but the Velcro needs to be more substantial to stop it been pulled off by children. It needs to washed daily to keep it clean as it stains otherwise. For babies who are doing baby led weaning it just isn't big enough to cover the body to stop tops needing changing. I personally will be looking at the arm cover bibs in the same material as I am impressed with the neoprene look. Available from Amazon Tesco's for £4.99 I am giving the bib 3 stars deducting two for the Velcro issues and staining problems.
