Advantages: good for babies who wont use bottles/beakers

Disadvantages: not readily available, very messy, cant transport fluid in it

I had often heard people talking about these cups, but they are not readily available in shops and thought they looked slightly stupid and not to mention messy so never bothered with. However when my daughter hit 6mths we had a nightmare time in that for 2 months she refused the breast completely and couldnt get her to drink from a bottle or beaker, and after nightmares trying to get fluids in with a spoon (water on a spoon doesnt work), i decided enough was enough and would try this.

It is actually promoted a lot nowadays by health professionals for baby led weaning and also better then other beakers which have a valve and develops baby confident at a younger age and saves the hard work trying to break them off a beaker/bottle at an older age.

The beaker itself comes in a wide range of bright colours. We paid £3.50 for ours off ebay as couldnt find them anyway round us. The beaker is slanted with a flat bottom, meaning it easier for children to drink as they dont have to tip the beaker up as far plus they can also see the water, etc coming so know how far to tip (or in theory, probally for older kids but definately not for babies.)

Have to say they are a great bigger as at last finally got daughter to drink some fluids, however I was not brave eough to let her do it alone, as was messy enough trying to hold it and do it with her. Without me it would of been tipped everywhere. They are a great design but think better for older toddlers then babies as it is so messy, however if you have a child like mine this was the only way to get fluids into her for 2months.

The other disadvantage is when you go out you still got to take a bottle of water etc then fill into this as obviously cannot transport liquids in this.

Summary: proved to be a life saver, but wouldnt of used it if didnt need to

I bought a couple of these off the internet and Toby loved them, we don't tend to use them now as he's progressed onto normal cups. Nicola x
