      Boots Safari Bowl

Every child needs a bowl just of their own that they will enjoy eating out of and one that will make meal times fun. It also needs to be smash proof, damage proof, scratch proof, basically everything proof that will stand up to the test of dinner time. As I have the Boots baby safari spoon and fork I decided to purchase the rest of the set and get the Boots Baby safari melamine bowl. I also chose it so I could get the Boots Advantage Card points and as we have a number of safari branded things so I wanted to be in keeping with her decor (she now has a jungle safari highchair) and also because this was the cutest set they had.

According to an article I read, Melamine is combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a very durable thermosetting plastic used in Formica. It's end results are items such as housewares, cooking spoons and dinnerware. This then obviously makes it a very good material for which to make baby bowls out of. The plastic in this bowl is very thick and very different to just a regular thin plastic. It is very sturdy and very strong, I can definitely attest to that. This bowl has been thrown from a great height when my little girl doesn't want anymore of her dinner in her highchair, been dragged across the floor and generally been bashed about. It does not have a scratch on it and is still as perfect as the first day I bought it.

The bowl is very cute. It is the size of a normal salad bowl with quite a wide opening making it easy for little hands to reach into it. The rim is a sort of sea green/blue colour, really quite attractive which is the same colour as the cutlery. Across the rim are written words such as scrummy, delicious and mmmm....., nice ways to describe their food to little ones. Inside the bowl the safari theme continues with really cute cartoon drawings of a monkey, elephant, snake, lion, giraffe and hippo. The words breakfast time, tea time and dinner time are written inside too. I think this is a great addition to the bowl as once kids start learning their words this is a great way of introducing these common words to them and something they will see everyday and get to learn easily.

The bowl is not suitable for microwave use but is dishwasher safe. It is available from Boots and costs £2.54

Matches well with the rest of the safari range

Our Boots Baby Safari Melamine Bowl is something we have had as part of a gift we had, which included the matching cutlery set and plate. We have found them to be both charming and durable and thought them worthy of a review.

The Safari range is only found in Boots as its an own brand range, but this shouldn't put you off as the overall quality is something we have found to be rather good. Products in the range start at around £2.49 in price which seems about right for something like this.

        **********************************************************
The size and shape of the Boots Baby Safari Melamine Bowl is good. Its nice and deep but not so deep that its hard for a chid to reach their food. Its perfect for both desserts or main meals for younger children when supervised by mum or dad.

The bowl itself feels solid and is not at all flexible which may make it a bad option for use with a child who is prone to playing with their feeding bowl. As throwing this one could cause a nasty knock, as its not a soft touch bowl by any means.

        **********************************************************
The designs on the Boots Baby Safari Melamine Bowl are rather sweet and match the overall safari theme that goes with the other items in the range that we have. The outside rim of the bowl is in a soft mid green/ blue and has a series of small paw prints and words around it. I think it looks quite smart and neat.

The main body of the bowl is in white, with a very cheeky monkey, a tall giraffe, a smiling snake, a rather chunky looking hippo and a friendly little elephant all seemingly balancing above a happy looking lion complete, with super fluffy looking mane. Luckily the lion doesn't look like a grouchy chap so the other animals all seem to be happy and smiling.

        **********************************************************
The over all effect this gives is rather nice and our child liked the look of all the little animals, as they are not in any way scary looking, yet can be easily identified as what they are. One thing we have found with this bowl is that food does seem to stay hot for longer than in some thinner or more flexible feeding bowls. I can only put this down to the over all thickness of the bowl.

I do feel I need to say that you are advised not to use the bowl in a microwave. Which means that if you are thinking of heating food that way to use with the bowl, then you will need to heat it in a different bowl and then transfer it. Also as it is a more solid feeding bowl as with the cutlery set that we have, I would say this is best kept for use with an older baby/ toddler, (the recommended age is 12 months +) if allowing your child to use this unsupervised.

        **********************************************************
To wash the Boots Baby Safari Melamine Bowl we found that its best done in warm soapy water with a non abrasive cleaning sponge or cloth. We found that washing it this way will ensure that the bowl does not become scratched too much. The bowl does have a kind of semi glossy coated finish to it that will fade slightly over time unless care is taken.

To give the Boots Baby Safari Melamine Bowl a rating, I feel that 4 stars is about right when used with a slightly older baby. As the bowl is a solid feeling object, thats where I see its best used and what I would recommend it for. Its also fine for use when you are feeding your child or supervising them, but sue to its solid melamine make up, it could cause a bump or two if used inappropriately.
