Boots Washable Breast Pads
Advantages: Soaks up excess milk
Disadvantages: Moved around
Another product I used when I had my children were the Boots Breast Pads. When you have a child, regardless of whether you intend to breast feed or not, your breasts will fill with milk and then if you decide against breast feeding for whatever reason the milk will dry up. If you decide to continue with feeding, your milk will continue to be produced.
The problem is, although this doesn't happen to everyone, that your breasts can leak milk and if there is no protection in your bra, then you will end up looking ridiculous and feeling very wet and uncomfortable.
These breast pads have a waterproof backing on them which prevents the excess milk from leaking through to your top, and a padded, slightly concave area which fits over your nipple and soaks up the excess.
The padding was adequate for my leakage, although some days, especially if it was hot, my milk seemed to flow heavier than others and I would need to change frequently. On average I think I would use about four changes a day, in an attempt to keep feeling fresh.
I did experience trouble though in trying to keep them in one place inside my bra. If I was doing any sort of activity which involved moving around myself, I would always be reaching in and adjusting the pad so it was central over my nipple. I think a small sticky area on the outside would have helped as it could have been attached to the bra and eased the problem here.
Overall though, these were a good breast pad and although I sometimes indulged in more expensive brands like Johnson & Johnson, I always ended going back to these as they were not too expensive and were adequate for my needs. Maybe if I had been working and it was more important to stay clean and fresh I would have gone for a better brand. But being a stay at home mum I could wash and change whenever I needed to and therefore the Boots brand worked for me.
Summary: RECOMMENDED xx - I had no problems really
