OK but there are better solutions out there

**What are they?** Boots Play & Splash Mats are not table mats, but floor mats you place under your child's booster seat or high chair (or simply to place on the floor if they are doing messy play like play dough or painting) to save your floor (usually carpet) from becoming dirty and stained. They are thin plastic, and are designed to be thrown away though they can be re-used if not too dirty (say, over the course of a day). **Price and Availability** The Boots Play & Splash Mats are available exclusively in Boots and at Boots.com, a delivery charge of around £3.99 applies, though you can collect at store for no extra charge even if the store does not sell the item (you can even collect at Boots pharmacies). The price is £5.99 for 10 mats, so just about 60p a mat. **Looks** The Boots Play & Splash Mats are made of a very thin shiny plastic and are primarily white with a variety of designs available, the ones we get are a safari theme as my daughter likes the little animals. They're unisex and they're very pretty to look at so you don't mind having them on the floor or taking them out with you to use at someone else's house or even in a restaurant. **In Use** They do provide decent floor coverage but my daughter turned into a 'thrower', not really in a bad temper sort of way but in a 'I've finished my dinner now, be gone, leftovers!' way. She's grown out of it now and passes you the dish or bowl and says 'all done' but when she was a thrower, no mat would really save my poor (once cream) carpet! But it is good for dropped bits and bobs and stops peas from getting trodden into the carpet and so on. We have a few left over from the last lot we bought, and I now use them for messy play with my nearly 2 year old, say for example, play dough, hand painting, and gluing and sticking. It saves the carpet. **Recommend?** For occasional use I do think these are good but for every day use it would be far far more economical (and ecological) to get a wipe clean mat, I bought a foldable cleanable picnic mat from Home Bargains for £3.99 which is wipe clean and can be popped in the washer and covers more of the carpet. So I'd say whilst it is handy to have a few of these in they are more suitable for very young children and even then it might be better to buy a permanent mat. Overall these Boots Play & Splash Mats are good, they do what they promise, but they're more of an occasional or travel item for me as it's just not practical to be spending £24 a month protecting your floor when you can spend under £4 for a permanent mat which can then be used in the garden. So whilst I do recommend them for what they are I do think there are more practical solutions out there.

      Boots splash mats

When you are feeding a toddler or a little baby a splash mat is a really handy item to have. It doesn't really bother me when we are at home as we have a tiled kitchen floor and I can jsut clean it up with some wet wipes or more often than not I just let my dog lick up the dropped foot but when we are at someone else's house I try not to make a mess. My parents have carpet at their house and so foods like spaghetti and other messy foods need a mat underneath them to catch them and stop the floor from becoming stained. These mats are such a good idea. They fit easily in my change bag so I don't have to worry about remembering to take them each time I go and only need to use them when I am out or in somewhere that needs extra protection. What I do is lay the mat on the floor first and then I put the high chair over it so you get a good covering around the bottom of the high chair that is covered. Of course some bits of food do eat up way off the amt but the fact that the bits that fall down on their own will stay on this mat is great. What I like about these mats is that they have sticky edges on them so you can press it down on the floor and they will stay in place until you need to pull them up again. This is helpful I find if I am having to move the highchair about, the mat will stay in place and more importantly the food that has already dropped on it will stay in place too. What I like about these mats too is that you can use them again. I find if they don't get too dirty I can just fold them up and use them again at another point in time meaning that they are quite cost effective. An easy solution to cleaner floors.

A handy and portable set of play and splash mats

Having recently reviewed our Boots Disposable Placemats I thought it was about time that these Boots Play & Splash Mats got the once over, as they were successfully added to my suggested Dooyoo product list yesterday. These mats are a simple yet very helpful idea and so worth considering if you have children or grand children. If you have ever been in a situation with a baby or older child where you wished you had something that was both light and water proof to protect surfaces, then the Boots Play & Splash Mats are just what you need. They can be used in a wide variety of ways and can be wiped over and reused in certain situations. I really like these, as they are so simple to use and very easy to pop into your bag to take with you. ********************************************************** The Boots Play & Splash Mats come in a simple cardboard box with a perforated opening panel that you can easily press open. The mats inside are both slim and light, yet strong and very durable if you choose to re-use them. They come as a set of 10 mats and cost £5.99 per pack, or when broken down in to a cost per mat price, they work out at near enough 60p each. That might sound expensive, but it does depend on how you use or re-use these mats. They are large enough to sit under your childs highchair at meal times and can happily sit under the chair collecting any dropped crumbs, or bits of food that fall down onto the floor. They can be re-used if you are able to wipe them down with an antibacterial product, but if not left in place their stickiness will be effected if doing that. ********************************************************** They have a range of colourful animals and birds on them to match the disposable placemats such as a sheep, cow, bird (thats meant to be a chicken as it says cluck cluck) a duck, an apple tree and some flowers. The animals all have the word sounds they make written next to them, so 'moo moo', 'baa' 'quack, quack' etc. The mats are mainly white all over, except for this. The material used is thin plastic type stuff. This makes the mats easy to pack when visiting friends or staying away from home. We have found we have used these when going out on picnics at times too. As no matter where you go it seems that passing flying birds seem to use picnic tables for things other than their intended use. Placing one of the Boots Play & Splash Mats on to the top a the picnic table can provide a clean surface for you to place your picnic food. We have found this very useful indeed. ********************************************************** Another use we have found for these Boots Play & Splash Mats is when dong crafting type activities. As very often these involve glue, glitter, tape, paints, felts, crayons etc. Children do love a bit of crafting, so these little mats are great for that type of thing as they can be stuck down to protect the surface from any crafting damage. The Boots Play & Splash Mats have sticky strips underneath that you can uncover and stick down easily. This will keep them in place when in use. If you intended to re-use the mats, which we have done many a time, they need a good old shake out, outside if possible to get rid of any residue and a wipe over. We have found that you can use double sided sticky tape to replace the existing tape with the mats, to re-use them and this works well. ********************************************************** Boots Play & Splash Mats get a full 5 stars as they have been very useful in a variety of ways. I would say they are not cheap as a 1 use thing, but as they can be re cycled when cleaned and also re-stuck with double sided tape if need be, they can last for several uses.
