~~*~~*~~ Bopit Extreme 2 ~~*~~*~~

Forget Thatcher. Dismiss Boudicca. You can even send home Pankhurst. Women's finest hour is now courtesy of a Smith. Yep, I was the first to complete Bopit - defeating all the men of the household and achieving the finest hour of my life. Thus, if you're an underestimated woman with no real sense of accomplishment in your life, then purchase a Bopit and all your dreams will come true. Or, in real life, all the men will pretend they didn't like it anyway and it's a childish game which will somewhat deflate your ever-fragile balloon. Damn men.

Enough misandry for the time being. Last Christmas I was lucky enough to receive two Bopits from close family members who should a) really discuss with each other what presents they're considering buying and b) shouldn't shop at WHSmiths where there was an offer of 3 games for the price of 2. Regardless, I was as happy as a happy person on Happy Day (give it time and Clintons will snatch that idea with their grubby little hands). Luckily Christmas was at mothers where she has an endless supply of batteries so I yoinked 3AAs (and then I had to root in her drawers for one of those tiny screwdrivers to open the battery section of the Bopit) and eventually everything was in its rightful place and my world was complete once more.

As usual, the instructions remained unopen but due to the simplicity of Bopit, it was very easy to get started - pull the blue foot and you're off. So that you'll never have to open the instructions or read another review, I'll tell you everything there is to know about the Bopit under some handy headings.

~~*~~ What is it? ~~*~~

Bopit is an electronic hand held game for ages 8+ (although there's a brat on youtube who's 6 and apparently a genius) that shouts instructions for you to follow - Flick it, Bop it, Twist it, Pull it or Spin it which must be fulfilled within a certain time frame that gets shorter and shorter the more you survive. There's the option to play Vox-Bop which is where the electronic bloke actually speaks the instructions or Beatbop whereby an annoying noise is emitted which you're supposed to copy. You can either play alone, one-on-one or in a group. So that's 6 versions of play. There's Latin, Rock, R&B and Pop beats that play whilst you bopit, and there's more that are unlocked as you play but to be honest, who really listens to it?

~~*~~ What's it look like? ~~*~~

It's a bit like a steering wheel with bits missing (just look at the pictures) and by maintaining the ten-to-two position you'll probably achieve maximum results unlike the one handed blokes in the family who try and do everything with their right hand. In the centre is the Bopit button, on one side is Flick it (green) and Spin it (orange wheel) and on the other is Twist it (yellow cone) and Pull it (blue foot). What you do with each bit is cunningly disguised in the description of it. It's pretty attractive if you like that kind of thing.

~~*~~ How do I use it? ~~*~~

To start; pull on Pull it. This is the magic voice that describes the gameplay - once you hear the version you want, just press the Bopit button. And off you go. Spin it controls the sound level though the clever people at Hasbro have included a little jack for you to either plug your headphones in for deceptive practice sessions or to attach your hi-fi to annoy the pants off your neighbours. Flick it changes the VoxBop or BeatBop and Twist it is possibly the most important part - the Hi-Score - essential when ringing your brother merely to inform him that you've finished Bopit and that he can throw his out. Remove the batteries and the high score is lost (an indispensable way to annoy fellow family members). In solo mode, each time you achieve the action required of you, you get a point - when you fail to complete the action, the high score is shouted at you by the magic voice. One-to-one requires two people to hold an 'arm' each and perform the actions required - bear in mind you share the Bopit button in the centre and essentially, the first to hit it, wins. The pass-it group game is pretty much an elimination competition best played when a little tipsy.

~~*~~ Is it fun? ~~*~~

Well, if you enjoy spending Boxing Day in A&E with an electronic toy lodged in your rear because it's really annoyed everyone in the house, then yes. Actually, it's fun regardless of where it's put. The solo version is all about getting a personal best and achieving the high score (unfortunately the game is complete when you reach 250 and that's that really). The two other games involve head to head competition and therein lies the problem - you need friends to begin with but bear in mind, they may not be best buddies afterwards.

~~*~~ Where can I get one? ~~*~~

If you too have an urge to irritate siblings, parents, dogs and neighbours then purchase one at all good high street retailers such as Argos, Tesco, WHSmiths etc or online (virtually anywhere). Prices vary from £15 to £25 but there are loads on ebay (I just sold mine on there and some lucky bugger got it for £6.55, dammit) but whatever price you pay, the amount of entertainment held within is definitely worth it. For the official product retail site go to www.hasbrotoyshop.co.uk (as if my review wasn't enough for you).

NB: Some controversy exists over the correct spelling of the toy - Hasbro have it as Bop IT, some retailers have it as Bop It and Bopit - I couldn't give two flying potatoes which of these you use but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Thanks for reading.

Will appear elsewhere on the wonderful world web.

Summary: Addictive fun for all.

I couldn't tell the difference between two of the commands Bop-it shouted at me (I forget which two) so I kept pulling or hitting the wrong button... At least that was the excuse I gave for my nieces repeatedly beating me. Great review
