Advantages: keepd baby close, savesw jumping in and out of bed
Disadvantages: /
Adrian is now in his big bed no longer in his cot. Let me tell you about the cot before I forget all about it.
The cot my daughter chose for her son is a brio bedside cot.
It can be used as a standard cot with both sides of the cot up and away from your bed. But the reason my daughter bought it was so that it can be used fitted next to her bed with one of the sides down so its like an extension to her bed for baby.
The side that is next to your bed is swung up and over leaving one side of the cot open too your bed so you can access baby easily or he/ she can crawl into bed with you. The side that is swung up and over is stored on the opposite side of the cot rather than underneath the cot as other similar designed cots does. This action is an easy one.
There are several heights that you can set the mattress too to match the height of your bed.
The cot is made of beech wood and is very sturdy, quite heavy to move will last several babies I think (Sally is thinking maybe baby number two next year sometime)
This cot was perfect for Sally as she has M E and found it good as she got the least disturbance at night baby when needing feeding could just be picked up from her side and fed. She liked the fact that when she felt she needed to peek and see all was well all she had to do was to turn over and look instead of having to get out of bed and trudge to babies cot.
There has been a lot of worry about sudden infant death cot deaths and if you are a worrying kind I think having baby this close would help.
Sally enjoyed the fact that she could have Adrian in bed with her easy to cuddle.
Yes she often woke to find him nestled up to her suckling .
This bed extention (cot ) is safer if you are worried about rolling over squashing babe as the cot makes the bed wider and usually Adrian did stay in his side(cot ) while asleep.
When the time came for Adrian to move to his own bedroom this was not too difficult a transition. The cot was erected as a standard cot and he soon settled. Now he is in a proper bed and seems content. I would certainly recommend having baby in a bedside cot and this brio one is excellent.
This cot now resides in her attic awaiting the next arrival ). A new one could be bought for just under £200
Thanks for reading Mary
