Bumbo is designed for babies who can support the weight of their own heads (sit up without their head falling suddenly back or forward). This is usually around 4 months but may be a little later for some. The Bumbo is designed to support baby sitting upright without any danger of them falling out. A high sturdy back rest aids comfort. This is a chair and so does not require power of any kind.

It is of the upmost importance that the Bumbo is only positioned on the floor and never on work surfaces or table tops. It should never be used as a bath seat or in the car.
Has a good colour range and is reasonably priced considering the excellent quality.
Bumbo is a very reputable name and used correctly is, in my opinion an essential baby item.

I purchased a Bumbo for my second child after my first child developed a flat side to his head. This was mostly to do with the fact that babies of course spend most of their time lying down, and with the introduction of the "back to sleep" campaign spend even more times in this position. Being a first time mum I was happy to let my baby play in the bouncy chair and maybe should have considered more "tummy time" but I had no experience and so a flat spot developed. My baby was too young still to sit in a walker or door bouncer in my opinion and at the time I was unaware of any other alternitive...aside from carrying my child in my arms at all times!
Even those of you who cannot get enough cuddles from your precious bundles will appreiciate that sometimes you just have to put them down!

The flat spot on my sons head has remained in spite of professional reassurances that it would even out in time. One of the times when "every child is different" applies.
And so, desperate to avoid this for my second child I discovered Bumbo.

My baby loved it! It gave a whole different view of the world. I could sit my baby at the playgym for short spells instead of under it. This made the gym seem like a never before seen toy. I could take the Bumbo easily with me when travelling due to its lightweight and compact size so my baby could sit up and see me aswell as everyone else in the room. And eventually once I began weaning my child, It was the perfect solution when I found he wasnt able to securely fit in the highchair for a little while longer.
I can honestly say that neither my second or third child developed a flat spot on their heads. Of course your baby should not be left sitting in the Bumbo for long lengths of time and should be allowed to lay on the floor and wriggle but Bumbo is a great next step from the bouncy chair.

Flat spots aside I would have purchased the Bumbo regardless as soon as I discovered it, for all the other benefits I have mentioned. Bumbos are wipe clean and retain their value. Mine still looks as good as new and is waiting for baby number four!
