A Bumbo is a special seat for infants which can be used as soon as your baby can support their own head. The seats are made from a wipe-able soft foam material, making them easy to clean. The manufacturers claim it provides an extra pair of hands for parents. They also claim that the chair assists in correct spinal development by improving hip and knee flexibility.
I bought one for my daughter, when she was three months, following several recommendations from other Mums at our local toddler group. At first she hated sitting in the chair but gradually got used to it. Despite having no straps, the Bumbo was able to securely contain her until she was 1 year old. My daughter was very small for her age and she was lost in the traditional highchairs which forced her to slump and look uncomfortable. Therefore the Bumbo was a lifesaver during weaning, enabling her to sit upright. Trays are available for the chair, but there look a little flimsy and don't secure well to the seat so we did not use one.
The Bumbo is very light so is ideal for using as a portable highchair. When visiting friends I would often throw it in the back of the car, so my daughter could be contained at meal times. The Bumbo also doubled as a walking aid as my daughter like to push it round like a walker!
I bought the chair (in red) from Mother for £30. It has been very useful, hard wearing and easy clean so I would say it was value for money and have recommended it to my friends.
