Advantages: Allows your baby to sit unaided and fully supported

Disadvantages: Little table not really worth the extra

Whoever invented the bumbo is a very clever chap (or chapess) indeed.

There is no getting away from it - the bumbo is definately odd looking - my sister was appalled when she first saw the bumbo and asked whether it was some bizarre instrument of torture, but getting over the look of the thing, it really works!

It is suitable for babies who can support their heads up to allegedly 14 months (although I am not convinced that it would contain a wriggly, crawling toddler!) and allows them to sit unaided and fully supported.

As the baby is completely secure, it is perfect for interacting with your baby when you need both your hands free - for example, I would put my boy in his bumbo when I wanted to sing nursery rhymes to him with actions - very difficult to make the wheels on the bus go round and round with both your hands holding your baby! I also used the bumbo as a mini-high chair when I started weaning, which was perfect to take to other peoples houses and all important was easy to wipe clean.

The best use by far that we found however was to put our baby in when we were eating dinner - pre bumbo days were a nightmare as he wanted to be cuddled the whole time, but he was perfectly happy sitting in his bumbo watching us eat and I am sure that this "participation" in meal times helped him get into the swing of eating. To pay around £30 for this benefit alone was well worth it.

I paid the extra for the little table, and I am not sure it was worth it as it is a bit tricky to clip on once your baby is in. But, that is only a minor complaint as I found in general this product to be a real winner.

My baby boy was a real cuddler and didn't really like sitting in a traditional bouncer type chair - however, he was very happy siitting upright in his little bumbo - maybe because he could see more and feel more part of things. As it worked for my cuddly boy, I would think that it would work for most babies so give it a go - you never know, you may get to use both your hands again!

Summary: Excellent product to allow your baby to sit indepentantly and happily (and gives you time to eat!)
