Bumbo Baby Seat
Advantages: baby enjoys it and portable to take on holidays
Disadvantages: be prepared to work those leg muscles as will be on the floor a lot
I have to confess that until recently I had never heard of the bumbo but it is now the latest craze among babies. The bumbo in case you don't know is a shaped foam seat designed to help babies with their posture. The shape gives a lot of support to your baby's back whilst their legs poke through the shaped slots which are designed to fit quite snugly.
My little boy took to his bumbo with gusto. I think he loves being able to sit up without support so he can interact with us better. The seat was apparently designed by an engineer and when I first bought I was very pleasantly surprised about how light it was. Often in photos it looks as if it will be quite heavy but it is light enough for me to have packed it in a suitcase and flown with it. That is not to say that it is so light that it feels unsafe or unstable.
I use the bumbo on the floor as there is a warning not to use it on raised surfaces. As I am quite used to playing on the floor with my son I don't really find this that much of an inconvenience.
The bumbo is very useful for weaning and I have successfully fed my son whilst in the bumbo. This leads me to another advantage of the bumbo and that is that it is very easy to clean. This is an important factor when your baby decides to spread his food everywhere. Obviuosly if there are accidents then the bumbo will be easy to clean up afterwards. As I mentioned earlier another advantage is that it is a piece of baby it that you can pack into a suitcase if flying on holiday. This meant my husband and I could get some hands free time on holiday.
There are not many disadvantages in my experience although my son does become tired in it if left for too long but this would be the same for all of his baby kit. I bought mine without the table which I now regret as I think it would be even better if he could play with his toys on it.
Although my son is too young at the moment bumbo also do a potty training seat so if your baby takes well to the bumbo then this may be a worthwhile future purchase I no doubt I may be writing a review for it later!
Bumbo comes in a variety of colours so easy to fit in with your chosen colour scheme.
Overall I have been impressed with my bumbo and believes it lives up to its hype and would recommend it as I feel for around the £30 mark it represents value for money.
Summary: A very handy piece of baby kit
