When I had Jayden my 6 closest friends all clubbed together and bought several gifts for both me and my husband and Jayden. One of the presents that Jayden received was the Bumbo Baby Sitter. Personally I had never heard of the Bumbo range but my friends assured me that it was an excellent brand of various baby friendly products, one of which was this cute seat designed to help you baby sit unaided.
Packaging
The Bumbo Baby Sitter came in a large hexagon shaped box which is divided up into about 6 different bright colours, I cannot remember exactly what was on the box but I do remember that there was a large picture of the product on the lid of the box and various smaller ones around the sides. The name of the product also appeared on the top of the box, on some of the sides of the box were pictures of other Bumbo products and the different accessories you could use with the Bumbo Baby Sitter, each picture had a picture of a different child sat in the seat to show you exactly how it works and how your child would sit in it. The lid could be completely removed from the top of the box, inside the Bumbo seat was not in any additional packaging but the box was only a little bigger than the seat meaning it could not move around and become damaged.
The Bumbo Baby Sitter
The Bumbo Baby Sitter is basically a seat which is designed to allow your baby to sit upright unaided allowing you to play with them without having to use one arm to support them and also to allow them to sit and play independently. The seat has a rounded shape with two deep leg areas cut out, there is a foam bar which goes between the two leg areas keeping your baby's legs in place, the back of the seat is a little higher than the rest of the seat, I find this comes about half way up Jayden's neck but this will depend on the size of your baby. The side although not as high as the back are quite high and the seat is quite deep, it is these sides and deep set seat that help to keep your baby sitting up right and helps with their posture, your baby cannot slump or slide about which will help to develop a good posture before your baby can sit unaided.
The Bumbo Baby Sitter that I received is described as being an Aqua colour, basically it is a greeny blue, however it also comes in pink, the only detail on the seat is the word Bumbo on the front of the seat and the Bumbo logo on the side. This seat is designed for babies from around 4 months old up to about 14 months old and babies weighing up to 10kg in weight, although this does depend on your baby's development, now I should mention here that Jayden is only 3 months old and technically a bit young for this product, however he has always had good head control and from just a couple of weeks old would lift his head a little if you laid him on you on his front, he can now hold his head up on his own a lot of time meaning I am able to sit him in his Bumbo seat for short periods of time, which is handy for me and also he is at the stage where he hates laying down all of time and wants to be sitting or standing with someone holding him which isn't practical all of the time, this means he can sit unaided for a while and allows me to get a few things done around the house, although I never leave him alone in it, he is always in the same room as me where I can keep and eye on him.
The Bumbo Baby Sitter is made from a low density non toxic foam, the seat is soft to touch and is covered in a plastic type material, it is suitable to use on any level surface and is extremely light which makes it portable and carrying it around easy meaning you can move it from room to room as and when needed, the light weight material and the fact that it is reasonably compact and not bulky also means you could take it on holiday with you in the car. The material it is covered with makes cleaning it very quick and easy, you can simply wash it down with warm soapy water and dry with a cloth, it is very hygienic and there are no small areas that dirt can get trapped in.
The Bumbo Baby Sitter is definitely durable and hardwearing, the soft foam material means that should you drop the seat it cannot break and the tough plastic skin means it can withstand constant use and the rough time it could have with a baby. This is definitely designed with safety in mind, not only does it safely hold your baby in a sitting position there are also no small detachable parts which could be dangerous or be put into your baby's mouth which makes it safe for very young children. Another benefit of the Bumbo seat is that there are no straps or fastener which may become uncomfortable, this seat allows your baby to sit safely without feeling restricted.
Warnings
Whilst the Bumbo Baby Sitter is designed with your baby's safety in mind there are a couple of warnings that come with this product, these include that the seat should always be put of a flat and stable surface to prevent falling and injury. Also your baby should never be left unattended in the Bumbo seat as depending on individual development some young children can work their way out of the seat, again compromising their safety.
Price and Availability
As I have mentioned I had never heard of the Bumbo range until now but since then I have done a bit of research on it, it seems that the Bumbo Baby Sitter is available from a variety of children's shops, shops such as John Lewis as well as various websites like Amazon. The price of this product really does depend on where you purchase it from, I have seen them available from prices between £30 and £50, on Amazon this product is being sold for £47.21, it is definitely worth shopping around for the best price. Personally I feel that this product is definitely worth the money as it is such an excellent quality product.
My Opinion
I have been extremely pleased and impressed with Jayden's Bumbo Baby Sitter and he too has been very pleased with it. As I have said he is below the minimum age but due to good head control is able to use it for short periods of time, although I find it best not to put him in it if he is tired, personally I think it is up to the individual parents to decide when their baby is ready for this type of product as all babies develop at a different age. I particularly like the Bumbo seat as it allows Jayden to sit and play independently without me having to hold him with one arm, this also allows me and my husband to interact with him fully again without having to try and hold him with one arm and play with the other. The seat is portable, hygienic and easy to maintain, it is not too bulky and can easily be moved from room to room. Whilst it is not the cheapest product you can buy it is well worth the money as it is hardwearing and good for your babies posture. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with a baby and will certainly be looking into purchasing Jayden some more of the Bumbo products that are available.
