Bumbo Baby Seat
Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Limited life span and not big enough for all babies
Whilst I was pregnant I was astounded at all the things that you could buy for your baby and when I saw the Bumbo baby seat I nearly fell off the chair laughing, what was wrong with a few cushions I thought. I soon changed my mind when I was given a blue Bumbo seat for my baby as a present when he was first born and started using it. You can currently purchase a Bumbo from John Lewis for £35.99, they come in a variety of different colours and also has a number of products that you can use with them, such as a seat cover, a tray, a table companion and a mobile, which you attach the Bumbo to and then you can push the baby around.
The Bumbo Baby Seat was invented by a design engineer grandpa to seat young babies who cannot sit up by themselves yet.
As soon as your baby can support their own head you can seat them in the Bumbo Seat. The seat has many technical design features that supports the babies posture allowing them to interact with their surroundings.
The Bumbo Baby Seat has received many awards from around the world for its effective and functional design but be aware of copy products that lacks some important features.
The seat stabilises the child into slight hip flexion, placing the pelvis in a slight anterior pelvic tilt which facilitates lumbar extension. This action, combined with the gentle curve of the seat back that matches the natural curve of the rib cage, facilitates the baby around the lower ribs and trunk for stabilisation. The Seat allows for active practice of the head and postural trunk control. It also allows a child the pelvic stability needed to get the hands into the midline for play. Upright positioning facilitates an improved visual field of the environment, improved respirations and breath control, assists a baby who needs to be upright after feeding due to reflux and many other benefits.
I found the Bumbo to be invaluable when my son was first learning to sit up and I would put him in it near his play gym whilst I did a few chores and would be happy knowing that he was safe and would not topple over. We used it for a few months in total and my son really loved being able to sit up and engage with us, it gave him a new perspective and view of the word around him and he was very happy sitting in it.
Overall I would recommend this product to others, as it is easy to use, you just sit baby in it, it comes ready assembled as it is just a large piece of soft plastic, however, it is expensive in my opinion and has a very limited life span, plus a friend of my who had a quite big baby found that his legs were too chubby to fit in the leg openings, so I would suggest it is not suitable for all sized babies, I think that you can purchase Bumbo Jumbo that a bit bigger.
Summary: Useful little seat
