Bumbo Play Tray
Advantages: good design
Disadvantages: a few downsides listed in the review
This is a review of the tray which slots onto the child's bumbo seat. Mine came together but you can buy them separately for earlier models or ones which come without a tray.
You can buy the tray for £7.42 on Amazon which is a good buy for how useful it is. I'm not sure that this would be sold separately at car boots or NCT sales as they tend to come together with a seat but if you know what you're looking for you might spot a bargain!
The tray is perfectly designed to fit the seat and slots in easily. You have to watch out that the child's clothing or fingers are not in the way before slotting in. The tray is aesthetically shaped in a round shape so it complements the seat design without being too bulky. It has a lip round the edge to help stop things rolling off the tray.
What's it like?
Made of white plastic so matches every seat colour and easy to wipe clean. You can use the seat with or without the tray but it is good for putting toys or food on it.
- If a child drops or throws something off the tray they can't reach and get it back due to being 'trapped' in (which is fair enough).
- Expensive to buy (as you need to buy the bumbo too!)
- Can come loose
- Needs to be fitted with care (fingers!)
- More paraphernalia to store around the house
- Easy to clean
- A good play tray
- Can be used as a high chair (but low or on a surface)
- Easy to fit
The tray is both useful and ergonomically designed. If you have a bumbo, you'd really benefit from getting the tray too. It converts a seat into a playing and eating area. It's easy to clean and easy to fit so is a good tool for parenting. The tray is safe and secure so adds confidence if you need to leave your child for a little while but I'd recommend some entertainment for them while you go so they don't get bored sitting in a chair with an empty tray!
The bumbo and tray are an expensive piece of kit and not entirely essential. If you are a single parent or often looking after your child alone then you will appreciate the extra pair of hands provided in this. I'm glad they designed a tray to fit the seat as it makes the bumbo extra functional.
I have reviewed the bumbo in a separate review but both items came together so please do read and rate my other review and I'll be sure to visit your reviews in turn!
Summary: A good accessory but only works for a while until the child becomes more independent
