Bumbo Play Tray
Advantages: Wipe clean
Disadvantages: really difficult to attach
We bought a Bumbo when Hope was a baby but we never had a play tray with it. When we bought another one for our second baby it came with a play tray. Although it was far from perfect I can see what potential it has and it did prove to be quite useful.
A bumbo is a hard foam seat for a baby which helps them to sit up before they are old enough to sit up unaided. They can sit up happily and comfortably. The tray helps to give them a surface to put their toys.
The tray is plastic and white and only small so it means that your baby should be able to reach everything on the tray. With our highchair the tray is so large that it's difficult for our baby to reach things if he pushes them away by mistake at least with this tray it's in proportion with the size of the baby.
You attach the tray by fitting it onto the middle of the bumbo which the baby's legs go either side of and then stretch it down so that the bottom of the tray hooks underneath the bottom of the bumbo. This means that it is secure in place... however our baby at just 10 months old was able to push against this with all his strength and it manage to come off which would often result in him almost toppling backwards because of the sudden force! So if you are using it and your baby is strong and active like this then you do have to be careful!
I found it quite hard to put the tray on. If i did it before the baby was in then I found it hard to get the baby in as there wasn't much room and I felt like I needed another five sets of hands! If I did it once he was in I struggled too as to get the tray secure you have to lift the bumbo up a bit and I was afraid he would fall out. It definitely isn't well designed.
The tray is only small which has it's benefits like I mentioned earlier but it also has it's downsides- you can't fit much on and it's easy for you rbaby to knock something off which then, i found, encouraged him to lean over the side of the bumbo to try to reach it and that would sometimes make the bumbo tip up.
Although I can see that this tray is useful I didn't find it to be all that well designed. For Hope it probably would have been good as she was content to sit there and would have played happily with a toy on the tray but for more curious babies this tray isn't very good and it's really poor at attaching and taking off.
It is wipe clean which is very practical for babies but I don't really recommend this.
Summary: I wasn't impressed
