Advantages: Can be used before baby is 6 months
Disadvantages: None so far
I knew that I would need a high chair for my son, so I started to browse around at all the different types on offer and read a few reviews, I never knew there were so many that offered so many different things!! I had been given advice from a friend of mine who had paid a fortune for an all singing, all dancing high chair just to find that it was useless and they bought a cheap one from Argos that did exactly the same job, and so I didn't really want to pay a great deal for our high chair. After looking around I really fancied the Chicco happy snack highchair, the cheapest place I saw it was on Kiddicare.com for £48.97, but as tight as it may sound, I didn't want to pay this much for one. I then came across a new website called Chemist direct that were selling the chair for £34.99, so after seeing it so cheap I decided to go ahead and order it.
The chair I chose was a multi coloured, polka dot design on the padded seat, the seat also wipes fully clean. I particularly wanted a unisex one in case we go on to have a baby girl, so this chair could be used for the both of them. The high chair itself folds up for easy storage and does go quite flat, we currently keep it behind a door so it is out of the way when not in use.
It has a removable tray, which was a necessity to be able to clean it easily, the tray also has four different positions, so that as you baby grows the tray can be moved out to accommodate your baby, the tray easily slides backwards and forwards with two handles that are at each side of the tray, underneath. The seat itself also reclines to three positions; I think the reason for this is as it can be used for babies from 4months upwards, so if they cannot yet sit up they can be reclined to feed. Now I may be completely wrong about this but I started weaning Rhys when he was just under 5 months and have never fed him whilst he was reclined, as I have always been told (but I think it is more common sense than anything else) that the baby must be sat upright when feeding to obviously avoid choking. I have found that although Rhys cannot yet sit up, when I pulled the 5 point harness as tight as it can go, that Rhys sits up fine in the high chair when it is upright, so I can feed him much easier than I could if he was sat on my knee.
The high chair is very light weight and only weighs 5.9kg, although we haven't yet had to transport it anywhere, it will be ideal for taking to someone else's house as it does fold quite flat and is very light. The high chair also has a handy storage basket underneath, I haven't yet stored anything in it but im sure it will come in useful for more toys down the line!!
I have only been using the high chair for five weeks but I am very impressed with it so far. The five point harness holds Rhys securely in place whilst I am feeding him; it also has a plastic bar that goes between his legs for added security, this means that he can't slide forward and escape!! The removable tray also makes the high chair much easier to use, as you don't have to struggle to get your baby in and out while the tray is in place.
Summary: I am more than impressed with this high chair.
