Fisher Price Healthy Care High Chair
Now that Jack is starting to eat puréed food I thought that it was about time that we forked out and got him a high chair. It was quite a decision to make, as there are so many different ones available on the market.
The first thing we looked at was the clean ability of the high chair and the main factor in this is if the food tray can be removed. As my partner works in a restaurant he knows how difficult to clean these high chairs can be especially if the trays do not remove. The second factor is if the seating cover can be either machine-washed or easily wiped clean. The best seat coverings are the PVC ones that are very easy to wipe off any spills or splodges.
Now because Jack is still fairly young and not yet entirely able to sit up unaided we were looking for one that is suitable for younger children. One that is able to give added support where needed or even one that can tilt back slightly enabling Jack to sit easily in the chair.
This Fisher Price Healthy Care High Chair really did tick all of the boxes and far more besides. There is also the added bonus of it being blue checked in colour which is better than it being in pink for a boy, even though getting it for a girl would still be ok.
We bought this high chair from Argos for £64.99pence because we had a £5 voucher from a previous purchase that we had made so the catalogue price is £69.99p and because we spent over £50 we received another £5 voucher so you could say that we in a round about way got £10 off the chair. A totally bargain I thought. It is however one of the more expensive high chairs available in the Argos book but this is of course because it has far more things going for it than all the others.
Setting up the high chair out of the packaging was as all things you have to put together a nightmare. The instructions were clear and had good diagrams to got with them and all the right things were included but personally I cant stand having to put things together at all and wished it was already done for me. It probably took about 45 minutes from start to finish and wasn't as bad as most things are to put together.
The chair itself can be made lower or higher depending on what it is that you want. This I find is very helpful if you are feeding at table height as this can be adjusted to suit the height of your own table or if you are feeding standing the highest setting is perfect. There are seven height settings to choose from in total. The ease of changing the height could not be simpler as there are two handles down each side leg that can be pushed in and then the seat can be dropped or raised safely, although much safer and easier to adjust before you sit your child in the high chair.
There are also three seat settings giving you the option to have your child sat bolt upright, slightly reclined or more reclined. This again is so simple to change either with the child in the high chair or without them in it. There is a large red handle set into the head part of the seat that once lifted up released to clips allowing you to move the chair forward or backward. You just have to make sure that the two pins either side of the chair are safely and securely in the chosen holes.
The seat covering as I have said before is coloured in blue and white check. The cushion is not totally PVC but it does have a sort of plastic coating over the whole thing that makes it totally easy to wipe away any mess. It is also very comfy well I cant say that from personal experience but Jack does look comfy in it and the extra padding on the chair along with the extra head support really makes it look like a chair fit for a king. It says in the catalogue that it is machine washable but you are told on purchase that this is not the case but because it is so easy to wipe clean that doesn't really matter.
The harness that this high chair is fitted with is made of a dark blue material and this is where food loves to get stuck. The harness is a five point one meaning that there are two separate belts that come over both shoulders and clip into a separate buckle that comes up from in between the legs. All these parts came come off easily and be washes with a brush in the sink.
The food tray comes in two parts and the top part, which has the sections where drinks and food can be placed, is dishwasher safe and can be easily removed from the bottom part of the tray. These two parts sit easily on to the two arms of the legs and together they have a one hand quick release mechanism which is absolutely perfect when having a child in one arm and trying to get them into the chair as this can often be pretty tricky. The white tray also comes with a teether toy. This toy comes on the end of a plastic rope like part that clips nicely and neatly into a second on the bottom tray and can be bent round out of the way or round into the mouth of the child. The toy is a rubber yellow bunny and Jack seems to love this as much and his spoon!
All in all I really thing this high chair is top class and well worth the money I paid for it. It is so easy to clean and take apart. It can be folded away and put into a cupboard neatly although still stays pretty large. The fact you can recline the seat makes it ideal for weaning babies before they can sit on their own.
I can really find no problem with it absolutely and would recommend this particular chair to anyone thinking of buying a high chair for the first time.
5*s Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Well done Fisher Price you have really done a good job with this product. And to think i though Fisher price were just for toys.
Summary: a great high chair at a fair price
