Fisher Price - Jungle Gym - Rainforest 1-2-3.

When Jack was a lot smaller I bought this for him out of the Argos catalogue and he absolutely loved it. It cost just under thirty pounds at £29.99pence and because people had given us vouchers when Jack was born I don't think we actually had to pay anything ourselves.

I chose this particular one because I felt for the money it seemed like the best one available. There are all sorts of different products that are similar to this one but as this one boasted three different types of play and detachable toys I opted for this one. It is suitable for children from very early on as the baby can be laid down and I think I put Jack on it from about a month old.

When you get the Gym it comes in a few different pieces which have to be put together and this was all pretty simple even if you decide not to use the instructions it is very straight forward but there are instructions if you get a little stuck. The gym consists of a play mat that is a rectangle shape with a bottom edging with toys sewn into the material. There is a headrest to pop under the babies' head for even more comfort and there is a bar that goes over the top of the mat where toys dangle down. At one end there is also holes in which to place long thin toys that come included and there is a giraffe and a tall tree with butterflies hanging from it.

The mat, which the baby lays on, is a green colour and the design matches the name for the product, as there are lots of leaves and rainforest type creatures drawn onto it. The mat is not very thin so I would always lay it on our rug rather than the laminated flooring just so Jack was a little more comfortable. The head rest never seemed that good as Jack would always work it out from under his head.

The bar that hangs over the head is brilliant and has two tags where toys can be dangled. One tag has a Velcro strip on and the other it extra thick so it can be threaded through a toy and it keeps it in place. The toys which come to hang there are good and one is of a small plastic tiger like animal but in a black and white colouring. This animal is holding a ball that can be spun and when it is there are two different tune modes that will then be played. It took jack a while to be able to spin it but as soon as he had mastered it he couldn't be stopped!!! The other toy that can be hung up is a pair of butterflies that are lovely bright vibrant colours. Jack still loves these now even though we have put away gym we have kept these out as he loves to look at he pretty colours. There was also a soft rattle pelican that came with the gym and that can be hung up on the Velcro strip but it was a lot shorter than the other two toys and Jack could never quite reach it well enough to grab it down.

The end part of the mat which has t a toy are sewn into it was rather fun and Jack liked being on his tummy and being able to play with this section. There is a small plastic mirror of good quality that the child can play peek-a-boo in and unlike other toy mirrors the reflection is good and not at all distorted. There is also a small bit of material covering up another animal and this piece of material is like that of a flap which can be opened and closed to reveal the animal behind. Jacks favourite part of this section was the spinning plastic ball that contained little beads than made a lovely rattling sound when the ball was spun. You could see the beads inside moved round and the ball itself was easy to spin.

The final part of the gym is where when the baby is old enough to sit up they can sit and play with the tall giraffe and tall tree that are either side of one end of the play mat. There two parts are detachable and can easily be popped out or in of the two holders that are there. Jack wasn't so keen on these as they didn't really do that much. We have kept these out as well since packing the gym away but he is not really that interested. The giraffe looks nice and is like a soft toy on a soft pole and when shaken it jingles as there is a rattle inside this too.

All in all though I think this was a really successful and useful product to have. The toys that came with it are still in use and it is not packed away waiting for the next arrival. It was pretty hard wearing and can easily be wiped clean, and it was a lot! It kept Jack occupied for good periods of time where I could get on and do some of the house work that needed to be done. Jack enjoyed it and I think it helped him to be able to reach up and grab this toys that were hanging above him.

I would rate this product highly at 10/10. I have had no problems with it. It was a good price compared to some that are available. The fact that we are still using some of the detachable toys now makes it a worthwhile investment. And I will definitely be getting it out for my next child. I would recommended this to anyone who is having a baby soon or indeed thinking of a present to get for someone else. It is widely available and I am sure you could get it on line for a cheaper price than I paid.

Recommended. I hope this has been of some help to you. Thanks for taking the time to read.xxxxxxxx

Summary: a great starting toy

'Syrup of figs' is also good for encouraging baby movements apparently.
