Fisher Price Miracles & Milestone - Peek a Boo Piano

Even though Jack is now only approaching his tenth week of life I seem to already have a whole room full of toys for him. To be honest I am a big kid at heart and just can’t wait to play with him properly and for his to really appreciate my love of his toys!!! Not only have I sent a lot of money on toys we have had quite a few things bought for us from my parent and my other half’s parents. This Peek a Boo Piano from Fisher Price is one of the few toys that Jack can really appreciate now and plays with on a regular basis.

It was one that my partners mum bought for Jack so I am not too sure how much was actually paid for it but after look up on Amazon how much they retail for I found out that the RRP is £24.99p a price that I think is well worth it.

What you get when you purchase this item is a rather large chunky piano. It has5 large soft piano keys on the front (although there are four black ones but these don’t make a noise). The keys are covered in a lovely soft wipe-able material that makes is easy and safe for any child to play with. There is a large orange button on the front that operates the power and then gives an option to choose from quite or loud sound.

On the front also is a small plastic chick that has two soft rattles for feet that can be swiped at by the playing child. The chick also has two mechanical soft wings that open and close when a few of the keys are played in succession. The chick will hide its face with these two large wings and says, “Peek a Boo” in a somewhat high pitch and fairly annoying voice.

Around the chick hidden in a bar of plastic red are lots of small LED light. These lights will come on and off depending on what notes are played with the piano. The lights are positioned in a circular shape under, over and around the chick and give the child playing something else to focus attention on.

On the back of the “Peek a Boo Piano” there is a small orange switch that gives you the option to choose between three different play options. The first option is where it will start with the chick saying “Peek a Boo” the lights begin to flash randomly and the tune “nick knack paddy whack” begins to play for a short period. The chick will then say “peek a boo” once that has finished and then another song will begin to play (one that I am not overly familiar with) again the chick will peek a boo and the tune “hunting we will go” plays with the red LED lights still flashing randomly. The chick yet again peek a boo’s then a piece of classic music plays and this pretty much goes on for over 10 minutes in the same sequence.

The second option you can choose on the back of the piano again starts with the chick saying peek a boo and the LED lights flashing a small piece of classic music plays but then stops. The music will only continue to play when one of the keys from the piano is hit but of course the chick will say peek a boo before playing any more of the song. This encourages the child to kick out more to get more of the song played to them. However I find the peek a boo chick really irritating after a while so tend not to have it on this option too much.

The third and final option setting that you can choose from is one where the piano is basically played as you would play a normal piano. Of course the chick starts of the option by saying peek a boo but also says something equally annoying, that is “Hello baby” in a rather seductive and slightly suggestive manner!! The Led lights still flash every time a piano key note has been hit and after every few notes played the chick will peek a boo. This is probably the option that I play with far more than the other two just so jack knows that he is making those single note noises by kicking his feet. He is certainly getting the hang of it and is now very good at kicking out!

The Peek a Boo Piano can be tied to the inside of the cot so that it can be used as a sleep aid and the baby finds it easier to kick out. The fact that it is such a heavy toy I really don’t like the though of putting it in his cot. I have therefore tied it to his play mat and now he has a sort of toy station where the piano sits nicely at his feet and he can play with the things dangling over his head at the same time. Of course when he gets a bit older he can sit up and use the piano just like a piano is meant to be used. The age range is from birth so it is suitable for anyone really.

I have been using it most days now for nearly 10 weeks and the batteries are still going strong. It came with batteries so I didn’t have to fiddle about putting them in. However the batteries it uses are three of the size “C” batteries and these are screwed in securely at the back of the piano.

I really think this is a brilliant toy and the fact that there are so many ways to use it is an added bonus. Jack really enjoys it and he loves to kick out at what my health visitor said is a fairly young age to do so. It is making him strong and hopefully making him learn about music as well. This is a good piece to have or indeed to buy for someone expecting a baby so a score of 10/10 is well deserved.

Summary: a gr8 toy
