Gearing up for baby number two has been fun in many ways. Mainly because "I know what I am doing this time round for sure" has given me a level of insight in to the way I want to do things, not being influenced by the advice of other generations and believing everything they say... knowing what works for me personally is a huge advantage.
Last time round I breastfed for six months and found it to be largely a good experience. Those first few days were difficult as expected and when friends and family were round, I would excuse myself to feed the baby. The nursing tops were not really my thing as I found it easier to wear a vest top and just work around my bra but sometimes this did leave me a bit exposed!
I found out about the baby sense feeding shawl from a friend who swore it was one of her best items when breast feeding. She showed me hers and I loved it, from the nice pattern on the material to the soft cotton jersey material. I immediately knew I wanted one too 'for next time'.
I was really surprised that this item was only £14.65 on Amazon, with free postage I expected it to be a lot more expensive.
As it is made from a fully breathable fabric you don't have to worry about overheating the baby like with a traditional woollen shawl or poncho.
A sensory calming feeding place is important; however privacy, peace and quiet are not always possible, the Feeding Shawl provides a calm womb world in which a baby can feed without interference from the busy world. The challenge of keeping a blanket in place whilst feeding is solved with the clever weighted feature of the shawl.
This is a great idea for mums to keep a bit of dignity when feeding a baby. Having examined the shawl I think it will also be easy to remove the weight from one corner when it is not needed for feeding and it will easily transform in to a nice light weight blanket. I love the design on the blanket too, like a French picnic scene and not really babyish so could live on in life under a new guise afterwards.
I have had a quick trial with the blanket to see how well it stays in place when over the shoulder and the weight helps it to stay in place. It all depends on the position of your baby but it is easy to use and will no doubt come in handy. For the price paid, I am happy with this item.
