Advantages: Hardly any.

Disadvantages: Inflation time, empting, storing.

Way back when our british summer was due to start !! we decided to purchase a new paddling pool for our 4 year old son. The inflatable playground pool by Wet Set looked by all accounts a whole lot of fun. I had seen it in various shops with the average price being between £29.99 and £39.99. When I saw it in a sale for £24.99 I decided to that the plunge. When the sun finally showed itself we decided to inflate it... thats when the fun began. The instructions advise against using a pressure pump to inflate but after half an hour of unsuccessful foot pumping we decided that it was the only option. Unable to find an electric pump suitable for just this purpose - we had no alternative but to purchase a inflater for car tyres (although the box advised that it could be used for airbeds, dinghys and so on). There was another £19.99 on the bill! It meant we had to power the inflater from the car cigarette lighter - thus putting a drain on the batterey - not ideal. Almost 2 hours later the pool was blown up - another 20 minutes to fill and play could commence.

To be fair our 4 year old had a fantastic time in the pool, enjoying especially the slide and the palm tree sprinkler.

Of course once play is over comes the matter of empting the pool. It does have a plug hole but that amount of water all in one place does take a long while to drain and causes a pretty major flood! Alternatively you could leave the water in for the next day - but you would of course need to empty all the insects, leaves and other floaters before play commenced. Also if you leave it full of water it is impossible to move (the pool is 8ft x8ft) so of course when it is eventually moved the grass underneath looks very poorly. Ideally you should deflate and re-inflate every time you need to use it - but how do you make a 4 year old understand that he can play in his pool in about 2 and half hours !! Not very easily.

It was definately one of those "good idea at the
time" purchases and I am certain my little boy would have been just as happy in an ordinary round pool - after all its the water that creates the fun - not the pool.
