Things people don't tell you until you are pregnant! One of these is that your breasts will leak milk. I f you are lucky this will only happen after the birth but be prepared for leaks once you hit your third trimester. Getting up every two hours to feed a newborn baby requires a great deal of stamina. The last thing you want with a newborn baby and the sleep deprivation that that entails is finding your nightdress or pj top is soaking wet. Lets not even mention the embarrassment factor of wet patches appearing on your top when out for dinner. Note: always have a muslin for baby and long scarf for mum.
Mother Nature does like to play her little jokes so you may find as your breasts grow into beautiful firm globes they will also ache. You may also find it difficult to fit into your usual tops. The last thing you want is to make them even bigger with large bulky breast pads. You will also want something that is comfortable against your skin as achy breasts are very sensitive. I was fortunate not to suffer from cracked nipples but I know many friends who did so comfort is of paramount importance.
There are many brands available so why pick Lansinoh? Well I have found them the most comfortable ones to wear. They are not too bulky unlike some other brands and feel comfortable against my skin. I can almost forget I am wearing them. The contouring suits me and it is not obvious that I am wearing breast pads.
The other major advantage is that they have not one but two adhesive bits. When breast feeding you are likely to be pulling your bra up and down so if the pads don't stick well then they will move. This may well result in a wet top! Lansinoh are very sticky so don't do what I did which was to peel off all the tabs at once then manage to get the pads stuck together. Likewise even when completely brain dead from lack of sleep do put then in your bra the right way up!
They apparently are apparently made from a special polymer which doesn't lose shape when wet. Certainly when I have used them they have kept their shape unlike some other brands. The top layer works well to draw moisture away from the skin so I do feel very comfortable.
They are available from the usual suppliers eg Boots, Mothercare etc and although may cost a bit more than others at around the £4 to £5 mark I do feel for the comfort and peace of mind they are worth it.
Summary: A must have for mum's peace of mind
