“ Brand: Little Tikes / Nursing Aid: Baby Bowls & Cutlery „
My daughter had the Little Tykes Turtle sandpit which she loved so when I saw this feeding bowl set in the same style in Toys R Us I had to get it for her as I knew she would love it. It cost £9.99 for a set.
It doesn't show it in the picture but the set actually comprised of 4 things - the bowl, a shell shaped tip resistant lid, a shovel (which was a spoon) and a rake (which acted as a fork). The set is recommended for ages 9 months plus and must not be used in a mircowave.
When my daughter saw it she was really pleased and I do think the fact that it matched her sandpit made her excited to eat big girl food in a big girl bowl even more than usual.
The bowl was great as in it looked exactly like the sandpit. It was bright green with the turtle having a happy little smiley face. The attention to detail was also very pleasing as the turtle had his little legs and the detail of his shell design. The inside of the bowl had a little seperater in case you wish to seperate your child's food. At the bottom of the bowl is a sticker of 3 animals - a pig, a lion and a hippo if I remember correctly - all smiling. I think this is used as an incentive for children to eat all of their food so that they get to see the animals again. My daughter was convinced she had to eat all her food so she could "save" them. I think she had watched too much Wonder Pets!
The lid of the bowl comes off just like the lid on the sandpit does and because the lid is rounded it turns out it is actually a bowl with a little flat piece so that it balances on the table. I thought this was a great idea and didn't see it coming until I opened it up. We used to use it as a little bowl to put ice cream and things in. As with the main bowl, there was a little picture of animals standing next to a Little Tikes logo.
The fork (rake) and the spoon (shovel) are both made of plastic and one is red and the other is blue with both having the Little Tikes logo on the handle. These were a nice size and easy for a child to use by themselves.
The set was fine when washing up too. It never lost any of its colour which was pleasing as sometimes things like these do lose colour. The stickers inside the bowl did start to peel off though and in the end I had to scrub it off which did not please my daughter.
Highly recommended. I am not sure if it is still available but if it is, it is a great little buy for kids though it does lose a star from me for the loss of the stickers inside the bowl.
Little tikes mealtime set
As grandson is getting more and more into his "real" food, I find myself drawn more often to different bowls and other eating implements. I liked this because I have always found little Tikes products to be good quality and I thought the concept was quite amusing.
The mealtime set is designed on the turtle sand box which i remember from when my eldest children were young.
**What do I get?**
This 4 Piece mealtime set includes a tip resistant divided plate, a Shell lid which serves as a bowl, a rake fork and shovel spoon. The whole set is light and easy to carry even if going abroad (about 5oz) and they are dishwasher safe and are tough and safe for toddlers.
**Product and Packaging**
The set comes in cardboard packaging with the information on the back as well as colourful pictures of the set, so it gives me a good idea of what i am going to get before I even open it.
The bowl is, as expected (it being a turtle) green, with grooves on its shell and a protruding face with two small eyes as well as 4 protruding feet. When I open the lid, the fact that the top of the lid is flat means that it does sit flat on the table and can be used as a bowl- we use it for dessert. On the other side of the lid is a jolly picture of three smiling animals leaning over the Little tikes logo, which i suppose can be used to encourage children to finish their food- eat up and see the grinning animals!!
The base of the bowl stands nice and steadily on a table top, helped perhaps by the fact that the feet stand out to the side. This section is divided into two parts so that food can be kept seperate if wanted. The two sides together form a rather jolly picture showing the three animal friends on holiday in the sunshine.
The shovel shaped blue spoon and the sturdy three pronged red fork both have the Little tikes logo on the handle and are both short handled and sturdy; ideal for little hands to hold.
**Who is it for?**
The information suggests that the set is for children age 9 months plus and I would agree with this because children have to be old enough to at least try to hold the cutlery.
**Price and availability**
The meal time set is available online at various shops and also in different shops. I bought mine from a bargain shop, and cost around £3 instead of the RRP of about £8. This means that for a set of this quality and durability it was great value.
This is a good value sturdy set which should appeal to youngsters and carers alike. The set retains its colours even when put in the dishwasher and the colourful pictures make it more interesting to look at for young children. It says on the information that it shouldn't be put into a microwave and because i don't cook baby food in the microwave, this suits me fine.
A nice sturdy set which is ideal for young children's meals, I would recommend this.
Thanks for reading.
