Advantages: Quicker than a steamer, Cheaper than a steamer, More bottles sterlised in one sitting, than a steamer

Disadvantages: check the size of your mic before you buy, Risk of burns if you don't let the steriliser stand after zapping

We bought the Maws microwave steriliser as it seemed good value for money, it came with bottles, cleaning equipment and everything a first time mum-to be like myself needed.

As any first time mum-to-be knows, buying anything for a baby can be daunting. Pros and cons are everywhere, so here is my opinion on the Maws sterilser.

It sterilises six bottles plus teats, lids etc in no time at all. Eight minutes to be precise. Having had experience of a borrowed Avent steam steriliser on a trip away, I found the Maws one quicker, more cost-effective, more efficient and definitely the better of the two. From my limited experience of the Avent SS I felt it took too long to sterilise not enough bottles.

One vital component you will be requiring from the Maws microwave steriliser is a microwave big enough to take it. We took it on holiday with us, only to find it didn?t fit in the microwave. However, never fear, the Maws MS is also a cold water steriliser, which means if your mic packs up or you come across the same problem we had, all you have to do get hold of some sterilising tablets and you?re away.

The tablets dissolve and you can wait 24 hours before you change the water, which means if you wash up your bottles as you go along, you can just drop them into the water, instead of maybe waiting until you have six to microwave them, or microwaving just the one. This also means that you?re less likely to burn your fingers, if like me, you?re over-zealous enough to open the steriliser straight from the mic, then you will be burned!

It takes thirty minutes to cold water sterilise which isn?t too bad, considering some of the steam sterilisers take 20 mins.

We had one of these, it was a such a relief not to have to make up sterilising solutions and rinsing it out with boiled water ect.!
