Before my daughter Rubi-Mai was born I decided that if I could I wanted to breast feed and I was lucky enough to be able to but I also wanted to give her one bottle of formula milk a day too so that I had a bit of flexibilty with her and didn't have to worry if for some reason I couldn't feed her, I also wanted to make sure she was getting everything she needed. When my twins were babies I had used aptamil milk for them and was happy with it and since the milk is also to compliment breastfeeding I decided this would be the milk I would use for her.

At first I just used the stage 1 aptamil for my daughter and at six weeks she started sleeping through then at around 10 weeks she started waking up at 4am for a feed, I couldn't up her volume of milk as if she had more than 5oz she would be sick and Ifelt it was really too early to start weening her so I decided to move her onto Aptimal extra hungry milk. At this age Rubi-Mai needed to be getting a lot of sleep but through the day the twins would wake her up a lot when playing and this is why I really needed her to be getting plenty of sleep on a night. Even though she was having 4 breastfeeds and only one bottle of extra hungry milk a day it sattisfied her and she started sleeping until 6/7am again.

Milupa Aptimal was first started in Germany in 1921 as a small family business founded by Emil Pauly. The company has since grown to be a world leader in infant nutrition. The business was started as a producer of biscuits and confectionery which then became know for its outstanding quality and great tasting products. In 1933 the Pauly family identified a need for quality infant foods and began to develop these products. Within 20 years milupa was the number one baby feeding company in Germany and they had a growing reputation around the world for research into infant nutrition. Milupa Aptimal began a research programme in 1945 to learn the beanefits of breastmilk.
Milupa Aptimal first went on sale in 1983 in the UK and has since become one of the most respected brands of infant milk in the UK. They now have over 250 scientists, paediatritions and nutritionists working for them.

~~~ Extra Hungry Baby milk ~~~

Aptimal extra hungry baby milk is intended for if your baby is not breastfeeding or to compliment breastfeeding and babies which are hungrier, it is suitable from birth. Aptimal contains immunofortis which is a mix of prebiotics inspired by the ones found in breastmilk.

The milk contains immunofortis (prebiotics), nucleotides, LCPs and is enriched with iron. It is also gluten free, halal approved and is low in sodium content.

~~~ Packaging ~~~

Aptamil Extra comes in a purple tub and you can also buy it readymade in a purple carton. With the milk you get a scoop for making up feeds which you keep in a holder in the lid, there is also a built in leveller in one corner to help you give accurate amount of milk.

~~~ What I think ~~~

Rubi-Mai has been using this milk for about 4/5 months now and i have not had any problems with this milk, I would definately recommend this milk and I will soon be putting her onto the next stage of aptamil milk as she is now 7 months. It is a little more expensive than other milks but I think it is definately worth it. I wouldn't say the milk tastes nice but it doesn't taste awful like some of the other infant milks either, it has quite a powdery, sweet taste to it.

I wanted to breastfeed Rubi-Mai and luckily I could but when I had my twins I deced when I came home from hospital with them that I was not going to breast feed them and there are a lot of women who don't want to or cant breastfeed and I think that every woman has got the right to make their own mind up if they will breastfeed or not and should not be pressurised or made to feel guilty if they don't but I do think breastmilk is best for babies so as this milk is supposed to be so close to breastmilk I think it is a really good choice if you decide not to breastfeed or you cat breastfeed.
