Advantages: best nutritionally!
Disadvantages: slightly more expensive
Not everybody is able to breast feed and not everybody chooses to breast feed, however, we are all encouraged to give our babies breast milk and to try to feed. Often, parents can feel guilty about not being able to breast feed and so Aptamil is a great product as it can help rid the feeling of guilt as this product is the closest formula to breast milk.
The nutritional content of this formula is the best on the market and is what a lot of hospitals use and recommend for premature babies. It contains a healthy bacteria for your baby and really helps them to gain weight which is vital for growth and development.
This product is not as rich as other formula milks and so a lot of babies find it easier to digest. When trying other products on the market such as cow and gate formula i found that my baby was very sick afterwards but on Aptamil she has been fine all along!
This product comes in a large tub which is very durable, can be resealed and has the instructions on how to make up feeds. It also offers advice as to what your baby should be consuming based on its age and weight.
Making up a feed is straight forward. The powder comes with a scoop and the amount of scoops needed depends upon the ounces a baby is having. It is very straight forward with one ounce needing one scoop, two ounces needing two scoops etc.
This product is available in all of the stages a baby needs- 1st stage, follow on milk etc. It also is available in an 'easy to digest' form which helps reduce colic and in a hungry baby form which is good for those babies with a healthy appetite. Also available are ready made up cartons which are more expensive- 59p for a 7oz carton but are very useful if you are out and about and unable to start messing around with powder.
This is more expensive than other formulas on the market and relatively less well known compared to cow and gate and SMA but it is worth the extra money considering its nutritional benefits. It is approximately £1 more expensive for a tub.
Aptamil is available from supermarkets and Boots and other stores which stock baby food products. It's price is usually around £8 per tub and 59p per carton.
I would definitely recommend this for parents who are bottle feeding or, like me, are topping up breast feeding with the odd bottle to help satisfy their babies.
