Advantages: Well balanced range of milk formulas
Disadvantages: Will not suit every child
There are plenty of milk formulas out there to choose from when thinking about what may best suit your growing babys needs. One formula we tried during the mid stages was Milupa Aptamil Follow on Milk. Later on we also tried the Growing Up Milk from the same range.
Having used a mix of natural feeding, with the occasional formula feed top up, we hoped that the transition would be a smooth as possible, but during that time we did have to try a variety of formulas until we found one that we felt best suited the needs of our child.

Milupa Aptamil Follow on Milk is readily available from most high street pharmacies and also stocked in many supermarkets too. The milk formula came in an easy to store large 900g tub. It had an easy seal plastic lid that meant once the inner seal was open, the milk formula could still be stored and kept fresh ready for use.
The product is easy to spot on the shelves as its clearly labelled as being follow on milk and the makers name is in bold and distinctive lettering. In terms of what we paid, prices often sat at the £8 to £9 mark, however sometimes by shopping around we saved a few pennies here and there.

Milupa Aptamil Follow on Milk is suitable for babies from ages 6 months onwards, we started using it a little later then that, in fact quite close to the 1 year stage. We were not sure which milk to choose at that point so decided to try the Follow on Milk first of all.
Whilst our child took to the formula well enough and seemed to like the taste of the milk, we soon found that it was not substantial enough for our child. We decided to move on the the Aptamil Growing Up Milk at around 11 1/2 months or so and found this to be a better choice.
Our child seemed to be happier at that point, so we found the milk was more suited at the time and could be used until the age of 3 if we had chosen to continue with it. Each tub of the Growing Up Milk enables you to offer your child up to 300mls of the formula per day. It also contains the right levels of essential nutrients including iron, along with prebiotics and vitamins.

The Growing up Milk also came in a similar looking tub with the same type of handy lid. We found that the cheapest place to buy was often Boots where it could be bought for £8 or so for a 900g tub. We found that the milk formula mixed reasonably well although care needed to be taken to avoid lumps. Mind you that may have been as much due to our mixing skills as it was the formula itself.
We tended to just add a smaller amount of freshly boiled water at first, give the bottle a shake and then add the rest. This seemed to eliminate any lumps and leave the formula nice and evenly blended. Our child didn't mind the taste of the milk when we mixed it this way, as we had few problems with feeding with it. We didn't continue with it regularly though and did move our child on to a different product which our child seemed to enjoy more.

In summary I feel that the Aptamil Milk Formulas we tried seemed to be good products, but as with anything that you feed your baby with, sometimes babies take to a product well and sometimes they don't.
The Aptamil range have plenty of different formulas suited to the various points in a childs development and are worth trying to see if they suit. Because we felt that they were a good product, even though we chose not to continue with them in the longer term, I feel the range is deserving of a 4 star rating.
Summary: A good selection of products at reasonable prices
