Advantages: baby loves it
Disadvantages: hard to find
When I started weaning my son I discovered that he would eat any jar food I gave him......well almost any. Although he would devour any of the of the lunches and dinners I gave he I couldn't find anything that he would eat for breakfast. After going through every jar and box of baby breakfast cereal in Tesco I was getting really desperate. Then my health visitor suggested that I tried Milupa Sunshine Orange, she claimed that she didn't know any baby that didn't like it. Obviously I didn't believe that statement but I was willing to give it a go. BUT, where was I to find it?? I tried Tesco and Sainsbury to no effect. Then by chance I was in an independent chemist in an area of Bedford that I don't usually travel to...there it was. There was only one box left on the shelf so I grabbed it - I think it cost be £1.95, but it was a few months ago now and I haven't purchased it for a few weeks. It was in a bright orange box, which is the colour of all Milupa boxes. The following morning I made up a small quantity using boiled water. As with most of these cereals for babies you can mix them using breast milk, formula or boiled water. I opted for the boiled water as I was breastfeeding and by this stage had got bored of expressing milk. When I mixed it up it was a very pale orange colour and smelled fairly strong as baby cereals go. I had a little taste and I could quite easily have eaten it myself, it had lovely orange taste, slightly tangy but not too bitter. But that was my opinion, what would my son think of it. I gave him his first spoonful and he pulled his usual face that he pulled at all the other cereals we had tried. Not being put off by this reception I offered him another.......hallelujah he accepted another spoonful. Wow, a third and a fourth spoonful went down the hatch. He finished the first small bowl I had prepared for him and wanted more. I made it and he ate almost a whole bowl of it. I
had finally found a cereal that he liked but where could buy another one once he finished that one. My local chemist didn't stock it and as I've already said neither did Tesco or Sainsbury. I did however managed to find some in Boots in the town center, not very convenient but at least they had it. My son now eats any breakfast cereal so I don't buy the Milupa very often because it's awkward to find. However, if your baby is fussy with breakfast this is one I can heartily recommend.......shame they don't make an adult version.

- 18/06/01 This was one of the first cereals I gave to my daughter and she loved it. A good op
Juzza just to let you know on the books that weetabix shouldt really be given until 6 mths. Mainly if you are mixing with normal milk and you should really introduce this at 6 mths. The other reason is that weetabix is high in fibre which is unsuitable for babes under 6mths as it binds them up to much. Of course off the books you can do what you feel is best ;-) |

- 18/06/01 you wanted to know why I gave this op a somewhat useful. I just thought that there was a lot of information about availability but not much about the ingredients / benefits of the cereal.
I never gave my daughter baby cereal, weetabix is ok from about 5 months and she liked that. I know how it is trying to get them to eat though!! |
