Mothercare Coverall Bib
Advantages: Covers the full front and arms, waterproof
Disadvantages: Plastic waterproof inside covering does tear and come away after a while
My two year old niece has always come over and stayed with me all day and often overnight. When my sister first went back to work she couldn't find a suitable childminder that had a space so I looked after my niece everyday for around 8 months. I also have her over at least two days a week and she'll always stay for her lunch and dinner. At first my sister would pop a bib in Lexy's changing bag for me but sometimes if she wasn't planning to stay for dinner she wouldn't have brought one and we'd end up wrapping a tea towel round her and tucking into the collar of her top which she didn't like at all bless her. Also I'd end up having to pop her dirty bib in a changing bag for my sister to take home. I decided to just get some bibs for Lexy to keep here so I'd always have one on hand.
I personally am not a fan of those little bibs that just cover a bit of the front of Lexy. My sister would often pack one of these for me to use and I found they don't cover enough. I'd have to roll up Lexy's sleeves to be sure they weren't getting into her food and when she was first learning to use her spoon there would be food flicked all over the place and the smaller bibs just didn't cover her enough to stop food getting on her clothes. So when I saw these coverall bibs in Mothercare I snapped up a pack.
They come in a few pack sizes and with a variety of different colours and patterns not just the plain ones shown here. Currently in Motercare you can get a 2 pack of coveralls ranging in price from £5.99 for the plain ones to £7.99 for a 2 pack of colourful floral coveralls for girls or blue rocket coveralls for boys. Or slightly higher priced Disney Minnie or Mickey Mouse coveralls priced £9.99 for a pack of two. I went for the floral ones.
The bibs are a nice big size and adequately cover the whole front of Lexy when she has one on. I can pop one on and push her chair into the table and the bib covers her whole front and sits a little over the top of her legs. They're made from a toweling fabric on the front with a white plastic covering the whole of the inside so they're waterproof. They fasten with velcro just at the top around the neck and fit very nicely around Lexy's neck so no bits of food drop down. The arms are full length and are elasticated so they fit nice and snugly around Lexy's arms. I've had these bibs for about a year and a half now and when she was younger the rams were obviously too long for her but they easily rolled up so that wasn't a problem. What I love is that these really do give good coverage to protect my nieces clothes when she's eating. Often her arms will dip into whatever she may be eating but it's not a worry with this bib covering her. After she's eaten I simply give her face and hands a good wipe with a baby wipe of two then pull out her chair and remove the bib which is often covered in food which has dropped down her front and onto her lap. I give it a shake off over the bin to get any big pieces of food off then the next time I'm doing a wash I simply pop it in with the rest of my washing.
I've had the same two bibs now for about a year and a half and love them. Lexy has some cute little character tops and she's such a girl she gets very upset if she gets any mess on them. With these bibs she's still nice and clean after eating. The only thing I have found is that the plastic on the inside dies eventually rip after repeated use and washing. One of the inside of the bibs got so ripped and the white plastic was hanging down so I ripped it off myself. I still use the bib but it's not waterproof and I need to get some new ones really. For the amount I've used them though I can't fault them, nothing lasts forever and I've had a very good amount of use from them.
Summary: Fantastic bibs
