Advantages: lightweight, easy to clean, tray is useful, toy included
Disadvantages: quite expensive, some babies can escape
The Bebepod plus is a floor seat for babies similar to the more popular Bumbo.
They are available to buy in Toys R Us and online in Mothercare and amazon.co.uk. It is priced around £40-45 for the Bebepod plus (£20 for the bebepod seat only). The bebepod plus includes the actual seat, pommel, tray, 2 tray mats and a tray toy.
It is available in red, green and orange currently and is recommended for use for babies about 3months+, once they are able to hold their own head up, up to a weight limit of 10kg.
The seat is lightweight and made of a seemingly hard plastic which is actually slightly soft and spongy when squeezed so it is comfortable for your child to sit in. The seat supports your child well in a sitting position without straps and allows them to learn to sit.
You can use the bebepod without the tray and fix the pommel to the mid post between the childs legs, or remove the pommel and attach the tray. The tray is easy to fix and remove on a slider at the top of the leg post. There are 2 tray mats you can place on the tray when your child is playing with toys or if removed the toy included can be slotted into the 2 grooves on the tray.
The bebepod is great to feed your baby in once you start weaning as the tray is handy and it supports your baby well allowing them to concentrate on eating!! Another advantage is that it is easy to clean
It is stated that the body weight of the baby holds them in the seat preventing them from climbing out, this may be the case in younger babies but older babies are able to climb out themselves. For this reason it is important they are used on the floor and not raised surfaces and that your baby is not left unsupervised when using the bebepod.
My son used his bebepod for a couple of months and it was particularly useful with the tray as I could put some toys easily within his reach. Once he was about 4/5 months old he started to push himself backwards and then lift one leg out if I didn't have the tray on it and as he was a very slim boy I was worried about him escaping!! Though I think this is unusual for a baby of this age as none of his baby friends did this and they were all using their Bumbos/bebepods for much longer!
Overall I think they are great for providing your child an alternative view of the world and enabling them to learn to be able to sit. They are easy to move around the house or take to other peoples houses when you need somewhere for your baby to sit. Having the toy that fixes onto the tray is great and my son loved that.
I will certainly be using ours again if we have another baby, and hopefully not have an escaping baby next time!!!
Summary: Great first seat for your baby giving them an upright perspective of the world!
