Advantages: Cheap and absorbant
Disadvantages: Could be softer
This was a product that most women will be completely unaware of until they have their first baby. When I had my first daughter I noticed 'Breast Pads' on the list of things I should buy, but it wasn't until my milk came in that I fully understood why I would actually need them. Breast Pads are basically round absorbant pads that soak up any excess leakages. This prevents the embarassing soaking of your tops and keeps your underwear and clothes nice an dry.
Now I have tried a variety of different breast pads and I have been really suprised by how expensive they can be. While some of them to be of superior quality, they also seem to come with a hefty price tag. As I have breastfed all my bubbas for a number of months, this equates to a lot of pennies spent on this product. It is for this reason, that I have tried to seek out cheaper alternatives. Cleanliness is really important with breastfeeding and I don't want to be restricted by the cost of changing the pads at frequent intervals so I have opted to buy supermarket own brand pads which seem to be much cheaper.
This time round I am mainly a Tesco shopper so I opted to try their Breast Pads. A box of 40 Ultra Slim Breast Pads costs a reasonable £2.61 which is significantly cheaper than the premium brands.
I have been using the pads for 4 weeks now and I have no major complaints. They have done their job and I haven't experienced any problems with leaking. They are really quite slim and seem to be concealed really well within my bra. Thumbs up so far... but then it comes to comfort..... this is where this product fails to compete with the more expensive alternatives. They just don't feel as soft to the touch and I found them a little rough when I put them in place. It wasn't so bad to be annoying but I just noticed that I was more comfortable when I removed them.
Each individual pad has a sticky strip, this means you can attach them to the inside of your bra and they will stay in place when you undo your bra for feeding. This is a major benefit as when I have used pads without the adhesive I have experienced breat pads falling on the floor in cafes - cringe.
Overall I think these are a pretty good product and I will continue to use them to save the pennies.
Summary: A cheap alternative
