Advantages: Price, easy to use, good for travelling

Disadvantages: Doesn't replace steam sterilising for every day use

It's not very often that I needed to use sterilising tablets as I had a microwave steam steriliser for every day use. But when it came to travelling, I couldn't take it with me, so I bought a box of Tesco My Baby Sterilising Tablets.

The box is easy to find on the baby care aisle of your Tesco (or online at Tesco.com), it's in a pale yellow and white. The box of 56 tablets cost a very reasonable 74p, though this may have changed since as this was six months ago - but it was cheaper than the brand leaders Milton and Tommee Tippee.

Using the tablets is easy, you use cold water, drop one tablet in and let it dissolve (it fizzes, but the water remains clear) then leave your washed bottles / dummies / breast pump pieces / teats and so on in the solution fully immersed for 15 minutes. Then you can take them out with disinfected hands and set them to dry and they're ready for use.

There is a bit of a chemical smell which concerned me at first because I was scared that the solution was too strong but it does go after a whil and as long as you use the right amout of water and leave the items to dry then you are perfectly safe. After 15 minutes cold water sterilisation they are germ free and good to go, you can pre sterilise a few bottles as long as you then assemble them and put the lid on, for future use.

So, I only used them two or three times when I was on holiday or visiting family as it was so much more convenient than carting the cumbersome microwave steam steriliser and finding a microwave on holiday. I found them very easy to use, the instructions are easy to follow, and each tablet is in it's own package (like a steradent!) ready to use.

I didn't and don't use them often but they are a worthwhile thing to have for travelling or if you don't have or don't want a steam steriliser, for the money they certainly won't break the bank and are very convenient.

Based on my experience of using them I highly recommend the Tesco My Baby sterilising tablets, there is no need to pay out for the brand names when these work just as well.

Four out of five stars for me - they won't replace steam sterilising but they're the best chemical sterilising method I've used.

Summary: Well worth having a packet in
