My husband bought me some of this cream but I was never very comfortable using it. It smells quite strongly of antiseptic and was quite a thick cream. This made rubbing it in quite painful. My nipples tended to get sore when my son was very hungry but because there was very little time between feeds I didnt trust the cream to dissolve into my skin before he wanted to latch on again. When he was a bit older I tried with the cream again (because it was there) and found it no easier to rub in. The best and most natural way to soothe sore nipples is to express some milk after each feed on to your breast and gently rub it in. The milk has everything your body needs to soothe itself. If you are still sore, ask your midwife to check your positioning. Breastfeeding should not make you sore so dont put up with it. Then use the money you'e saved on expensive nipple creams to buy yourself a treat. You deserve it!
I didn't buy any nipple cream before i had my daughter and regretted it when I started feeding her in hospital and got sore! Luckily for me I was given some Tesco nipple cream by another new mum and then sent out for a supply. I found it really helped and was cheaper than a lot of other brands. I used it for the first few weeks and found no adverse affects and since it comes in a nice big tube only used the one.
