Advantages: Adjustable, cheap, makes weaning less messy!!
Weaning is a pretty big deal so before I introduced my daughter to purees etc I made sure that I had all the essentials such as eating utensils as well as a few good quality bibs that would catch any crumbs or yucky lumps of spat out food as I knew beforehand that it'd likely be a messy process! Tommee Tippee is a brand that I'm very familiar and we have heaps of bits and bobs from this brand, all of which are still in brilliant quality even after nearly seven months of use in some cases. This is why I chose these bibs as I knew that they'd be good quality and durable - plus they're incredibly good value for money.
I managed to get our three bibs for around £1.80 each from Wilkinson's which considering how good quality they feel and how effective they are at minimizing mess, I think is a complete bargain! These are available from a wide range of shops including various supermarkets and websites. Prices do vary and a single bib retails from £1.00-£2.00 while a pack of two is priced at around the £3.00 mark. There are a range of bright colours to choose from ensuring that they appeal to parents with either a little boy or girl. I don't believe in the whole 'pink is for girls and blue is for boys' so rather than just grabbing three pink ones I got one in each colour - lime green, pink and blue.
These were the only colours on offer in my local Wilkinson's but other colours available are red, black and purple. The bright colours ensure that any dribbles and dried bits of food shows up which is handy as I've found that porridge can stick to it and dry and be awkward to remove even after being in the dishwasher - which is why I always try to wash the bib immedietly after use rather than giving the food time to dry - this saves a lot of time in the long run. My daughter is currently in the 'bulking out' stage and doesn't have much of a neck at the minute meaning that I'm always concious of bibs around this area as I don't want the bib to be too tight/rub against her skin but I don't want it to be so loose that food and liquid can get under her chin/around her neck and cause dampness.
These bibs are really handy as they can be adjusted to perfectly fit the baby - they're suitable for babies 4 months plus and my daughter who's seven months old is on the second hole fastening - there are four holes all together meaning that even as she grows we will still be able to use the bibs until she's not such a messy little piglet, lol. Luckily my daughter doesn't bat an eyelid when I put her bib on as we've used neck fastening bibs of her since she was tiny as she would just pull the velcro bibs off. For babies who aren't used to this style of bib it will likely take a little getting used to, but my daughter hasn't shown any discomfort and the bib is nice and soft around her neck. It's not heavy and doesn't press against my babies skin. As the bibs aren't too bulky and are very lightweight, I can easily fit one in my baby bag if we're going to be eating somewhere other than home.
The bib fits securely and covers the whole of her front, ensuring her clothes stay as clean as possible and she is unable to remove it by herself despite a few attempts! I was a little worried that because it's made of a rubbery plastic type of material it might cause her to have an allergic reaction to the material (I'm mega paranoid!) but nope, we've had no issues at all!! Due to the material this can be washed pretty quickly - I usually just run it under a tap and dry it but if it's particullary messy I just stick it in the dishwasher and it washes well - none of ours are stained nor does the material hold smells. Erin loves her food and usually eats any crumbs etc left in the little 'compartment' (no idea what the technical term is) and as it's so wide it catches a majority of food falling from babies mouth although obviously if you have a rebel baby like I do it doesn't help much with containing the mess of food that's been thrown around the room!
These bibs overall are brilliant. I really can't recommend them enough!
