Advantages: Prevents nipple confusion.

Disadvantages: Very expensive.

I decided from early on in my pregnancy that I would like to do combination feeding with my son - both formula and breast milk. I had heard from many people that it can often cause "nipple confusion" often with the baby rejecting either breast or bottle.

Tommee Tippee's closer to nature bottles seemed to me to be the safest option and we have never looked back. The teats have a unique texture and shape to them that mimic the breast. The shape of the bottles themselves are ergonomically shaped to be comfortable to hold for both parent and older child. They are also compatible with the sipper cup attachments and breat pumps in the same range.

My son did not experience any nipple confusion and did not reject either breast or bottle. The teats are durable and never needed replacing and are easy to clean. The one downside to them is that they will go slightly cloudy if washed with anti-bacterial washing-up liquid - I would recommend using basic original economy washing up liquid to prevent this happening.

The only other problem I experienced with these bottles is that the slow-flow teats are not compatible with the easy-digest variety of milk as the milk is much thicker, however, Tommee Tippee do medium and fast flow versions of the teats so it is not a huge problem, although you do end up needing to spend out more money.

The bottles are expensive (£4.49 for a single 260ml bottle on boots.com). They are worth the investment. I was lucky enough to have mine included in my cold water steriliser on offer. It is perhaps a better idea to buy them this way rather than separately.

Summary: They really are closer to nature.
