Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Bottle
Advantages: Perfect for feeing little ones
Disadvantages: The lid is hard to get off
With each of my children I tried to breastfeed but was unsuccessful and on searching for bottle tommee tippee closer to nature bottles are said to be as close as the shape of the breast as possible for an easy transition so I purchased these.
**The bottles and teats**
The bottles are designed to be held with comfort and so they have a dip each side of the bottle which transforms it into an hour glass shape and this makes it comfortable to hold for long periods of time. The bottles have markings down the side in both ml and fl oz so that you can tell how much feed you are making at a time very easily these are is solid black writing so even while there is milk inside the bottle you can tell easily how much liquid is inside.
The teats are perfect for little ones to latch on to and I found all my children were able to use these with no problems at all. They seem to be able to get the amount of milk they want from the bottle with ease and although we have had problems with colic in the past only for short periods and upon trying them with other brands of bottles just in case it was the bottles we were using the colic actually got worse so we always move back to these bottles for all four of my children.
These bottles come in both 150 ml and 260 ml bottles, I find the smaller bottles are perfect for the first few weeks of little ones life as they are taking smaller amounts of milk but as they reach around three or four weeks we tend to move on to the bigger bottles as our children started taking more than 150 mls and of course there is no point of making up a smaller bottle when they will still be hungry.
You can also purchase different size teats for the bottles and you can tell them apart by a small number that is written on them. The number 1 teat is designed for when they are younger as it has a lower flow meaning the milk does not pour out to quickly into little ones mouth. As they begin taking feeds and as my health visitor told me 'destroying the teat' meaning while they are taking their milk they are squashing the teat towards the inside of the bottle it is time to move on to teat number two which is a faster flow bottle and will allow little one to get the amount of milk they want. As they become older again there is a number 3 teat which of course is a faster flow again if you find your child really has to suck to get the desired amount of milk.
The bottles are easy to clean with have the tommee tippee bottle brush and this reach inside the bottles perfectly to make sure all the bottles are nice and clean before they go in the steriliser. As they have a wide neck it is both easy to make the bottles of milk up without any problems and to be able to clean thoroughly by getting right inside the bottle. We have the closer to nature steriliser but we have had an advent steriliser and these bottles fit inside there too.
My only downside will be the lids for these bottles as I am often out and about I need to take bottles with me and make feeds up on the go and the lids are a nightmare. They are really hard to get off the top of the bottle which can be frustrating when I am in a hurry. They click on fine and do what they are supposed to do but unlike the rest of the tommee tippee range that I have found to be really convenient this is the only negative I have found.
The prices of the bottles can vary greatly depending if they are on offer I recently went and purchased 3 of the larger bottles from Sainsbury's as my daughter is now taking 6oz bottles and they cost me £12.99 for the three. However I then came home to find tommee tippee have a sale on and they are selling six of the same bottles for £12.99 so I could have had double the amount of bottles for the same price if I had shopped around. They are available at most supermarkets as well as places like Argos, mothercare and of course the brands own website.
Although the bottles and teats last well and show no signs of wear and tear you should change teats every few months and I always purchase new bottles for each of my children. Each of my children has fed well with these bottles and I can easily see how much milk they are receiving. I love these bottles and although we have tried other bottles with our children I always find myself coming back to these and so when breastfeeding my newest addition was unsuccessful these were the bottles I knew I would purchase as we have never had a problem with them. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is bottle feeding their child they are inexpensive yet effective.
