Advantages: Very easy to use & clean, comes in handy steriliser box
Disadvantages: Does not work for everyone
I started off breast feeding my new born baby but after a few days of her not settling I started to wonder if she was getting enough food so a family member suggested I purchase a pump as this would enable me to see how much milk I was producing.
As I had already purchased Tommee Tippee bottles it seem common sense to purchase the Tommee Tippee pump as it fitted straight onto the bottles. I had a good look around & most places where selling the pump for £24.99, I thought this was a lot of money for something that I may only use once so I had a quick look on eBay & found a brand new one which had never been used for £8.99 so I purchased it.
What's included?
In the box you get a Manual breast pump, a milk storage bottle & lid, a bottle teat, 6 disposable breast pads & a sterliser box. (Oh and instructions)
The pump is in three parts & is very easy to put together & clean.
The steriliser box is for use in a microwave (just add 100ml of water) but can also be used as a storage box for all the items (it looks a little like a Tupperware box)
Easy to use:
There are step by step instructions on how to use the pump, it recommends you sit in a comfy chair as you can be expressing for up to 30 mins at a time.
You press the cup firmly against your breast so that it seals all the way round, you then gently squeeze the handle and watch the milk flow into the bottle and you shouldn't need to squeeze to hard either
It also recommends that when you first start to only use it for 3-5 mins at a time and gradually build up to 15min on each breast.
What do I think?
I only tried this pump a couple of times and had no luck with it at all, now I would imagine that its not because the pump is no good, I think its more to do with the fact that I was not producing enough milk. Overall I found the pump easy to use (very easy to follow instructions) & very easy to clean. I think if you are breast feeding then it is well worth getting one of these, its always handy to have a back up just incase you need to pop to the shop or cant be there when the baby needs feeding, it also allows your partner to help with the feeding process.
As I mentioned earlier these pumps cost around £24.99 but you can get new ones on eBay a lot cheaper so its worth taking a look there before you purchase one.
Summary: Very easy to use pump, just didnt work for me
