Advantages: Postable, compact, easy to assemble

Disadvantages: Slow, not as effective at stimulating the breast compared to other brands

I purchased a Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Breast Pump for use with my second child after using another brand with my first. I wanted to treat myself to something new and thought I would give this one a try.

Swayed by the brand name and NEVER having any complaints for Tommee Tippee products previously, I looked forward to trying this new and innovative design.
When I got home I washed my pump and put it in the microwave to sterilise. it melted! Not to be put off and willing to give it a second chance I took the product back to the shop and exchanged it for a new one...which did not melt.

I found the product not as comfortable to use as I had been led to believe it would be. The area that covered the breast was quite firm and rigid. I had never had problems expressing vast amounts of milk previously but found that with this pump the flow was very slow and I was only able to express a few ounces at a time.
I became concerned that my supply was dropping after a couple of days and was shocked to find that when I used my old pump I immediately expressed 4 1/2oz from each breast.
For the record, this was expressed at the same time of day as I had only gotten 2oz from the tommee tippee pump, The tommee tippee pump was properly assembled and there was good suction.

I immediately put my Tommee Tippee pump up for sale on an auction site and continued to use my old original one of another brand.
My main concern with the Tommee Tippee pump was that had I not have tried my old pump, or had I have been expressing only and not actually putting my child to the breast (eg mothers with babies in hospital care) I could very well have unwittingly reduced my milk supply if not lost it altogether.

Not as Closer to Nature as it claims to be.

Summary: Not for me!
